Adapted from bestselling novels, the series is taking over the streamer, fast becoming its latest must-binge obsession.

Well, it’s official: Netflix is putting The Lincoln Lawyer in park after five seasons. If you’ve been following Mickey Haller’s string of legal hijinks (and questionable life choices) from the backseat of that Lincoln Town Car, you’ve probably suspected the ride wouldn’t last forever. Now we’ve got confirmation straight from the creators – this next season will close the case for good.

How We Got Here

The Lincoln Lawyer never really had a shortage of stories to adapt. Every season has grabbed a different Michael Connelly novel and let Manuel Garcia-Rulfo run wild as Mickey, the lawyer who likes working from his car almost as much as he likes defending seemingly impossible cases. We’ve watched him untangle everything from messy divorces to sinister criminal conspiracies, sometimes while trying to save his clients, and sometimes while scrambling to save himself.

But Netflix has decided the show’s reached its logical conclusion. Their own Tudum hub broke the news: season five will wrap things up – but, and here’s the rare happy twist, it’s ending on the showrunners’ own timeline, not just because of a random axe from above.

The Goodbye, In Their Own Words

Here’s how co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez summed things up:

"All good things must come to an end, but thankfully, sometimes how they come to an end is up to us. From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion. And while it is, of course, bittersweet, it’s also an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future."

So not only do we get closure for Mickey – the creators get to finish the story on their own terms. Not exactly common in the streaming era.

Season 5: What’s New, Who’s Showing Up

  • Book Adaptation: This final season grabs its plot from Connelly’s seventh book, Resurrection Walk.
  • Episode Count: Ten episodes in total, so expect them to pack in a lot of drama (and probably one last improbable legal twist).
  • Cast Additions: Cobie Smulders joins the lineup as Emi – Mickey’s half-sister that he had no idea existed. She wants his help with a plea deal to potentially right a wrongful conviction. (Apparently the Haller family tree has way more branches than Mickey or we realized.) Other new faces include Chris Diamantopoulos, Diane Guerrero, and Iker Garcia, with more guest stars likely to pop up.

Another Note from the Team

"We are immensely grateful to Netflix and A+E Studios for the opportunity to land this plane the right way. But most of all, we are grateful to the fans all around the world for watching and supporting the show. We promise you, we are right now building a final season that will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves. We can’t wait to share it with you!"

Translation: they’re clearly writing the ending with fans in mind, which should relieve anyone worried about a sudden cliffhanger or rushed wrap-up.

When Do We Get It?

Don’t expect new episodes any time soon – they’ve only just started production. There’s no official release date, but with the way these things usually go, it’s a fair bet we won’t see this final season until either late 2026 or maybe even early 2027. In Netflix years, that might as well be a generation.

Count on more legal drama, new (and surprise) characters, and an emotional sendoff for Mickey – but after this, the Lincoln is headed for its last ride.
