MobLand Season 3 Upheaval: Odd New Details Emerge on Tom Hardy’s Possible Exit
In a bizarre twist, the MobLand Season 3 shake-up keeps shifting: after reports last week that Tom Hardy was fired, fresh word is the door remains open for his return to Ronan Bennett’s Paramount+ crime drama.
Well, it's not often you see this kind of chaos swirling around a major TV show, but MobLand (Paramount+'s big British crime drama, in case you've managed to miss the buzz) has gone and produced a proper soap opera off-screen – with Tom Hardy centre stage, surprise surprise. If you keep up with behind-the-scenes shenanigans, you’ll know Hardy has earned a bit of a reputation, but even by his standards, this saga is getting odd.
MobLand: Where Things Stand
So, here's the current lay of the land. MobLand was unleashed on Paramount+ back in March 2025, with plenty of hype thanks to creator Ronan Bennett and a cast list you’d kill for in a pub quiz – Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, the works. It didn't take long to secure a renewal in June 2025, though they've not pinned down a concrete date for season two yet, let alone season three.
The real drama, though, is blurring the line between fiction and reality. Last week, stories broke that Hardy had been booted from the show. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, it's all far messier. Officially, Hardy hasn't been given the boot – not yet, anyway. And, for now, his future on MobLand is ‘very much in limbo’. Which, I’ll be honest, is just vague enough to make you suspicious.
Hardy's Alleged On-Set Behaviour
New details are leaking out about exactly why Paramount might be eyeing the exit door for Hardy. Apparently, things got a bit farcical during filming for season two:
- According to an anonymous source (always reliable, right?): 'Hardy refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time… He kept the cast waiting, [which is] a power play. Keeping Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager.'
- The issues aren't all just about timekeeping. Hardy reportedly wanted to throw his weight around with the writers. Multiple reports say he was trying to rewrite dialogue, tossing out script notes to Jez Butterworth and to creator Ronan Bennett themselves.
- Apparently, there were clashes with the likes of Brosnan and Mirren – not exactly the kind of A-listers you want to get stroppy with if you’re trying to look professional.
The details of what exactly kept Hardy parked in his trailer are a bit murky. Was it creative disagreement, or just your standard eccentric actor routine? Sources can't seem to agree, but the general theme seems to be that it was disruptive enough for the producers to start considering whether it's worth the hassle.
To complicate matters, the show hasn't formally been renewed for season three yet. Whether Hardy stays or goes may ultimately depend on whether Paramount pushes the green light at all. If it does go ahead, filming could start as early as September. But, at this rate, if Hardy will be back – or even wants to be – is anyone's guess.
