MobLand season 3 lands a major casting coup after Tom Hardy drama
MobLand Season 3 gets the update fans wanted: Tom Hardy is officially back as Harry Da Souza, brushing off reports of a clash with the showrunner.
Fans of MobLand have had a bit of a rollercoaster month, and not because someone was chucked in the Thames on screen. There’s been proper drama – the sort that almost upstaged the mob bosses themselves – behind the scenes, all centring on Tom Hardy’s future with the series.
The Off-Screen Turf War
Here’s how it’s been playing out: Tom Hardy is sticking around as Harry Da Souza in MobLand Season 3. This is actual, official confirmation, which should be a relief for anyone following the show – especially given all the chaos that’s just unfolded off camera.
Not so long ago, everything got a bit heated between Hardy and showrunner Jez Butterworth. Reports from Deadline claimed there was a load of tension, mostly caused by what they described as Hardy’s ‘chronic lateness.’ Things got so bad by the tail end of Season 2 that it reached 'we can't actually work together' levels of animosity. And yes, it went as far as people saying Hardy was about to be sacked.
One of Hardy’s castmates apparently wasn’t having any of it, pushing back against the idea that he should be binned from the show. In other words, we basically had a standoff that would make any fictional mobster proud.
How It Got Sorted
So, how did everyone stop staring daggers at each other? There was a sit-down in London, which included Hardy, Butterworth, and David Glasser (he’s also an executive producer on the show). Guy Ritchie, who you’ll know both for directing everything ever involving British crime and for his role here as another exec producer, apparently helped smooth things over as well.
After this summit, Hardy agreed to uphold his three-year contract. Meaning: he’s back, full-time, for Season 3. There’s one tiny wrinkle: Season 3 hasn’t technically been given the official green light, but that hasn’t stopped the writers from getting together – so things look pretty much set.
And Now, Back to the Guns and Betrayal
In case you’ve managed to miss it, MobLand is a Paramount+ series about a nasty turf war between two London crime families, the Harrigans and the Stevensons. The whole thing kicks off properly after a Harrigan messes up massively, leading to the death of someone from the Stevenson clan, and from that point the knives (and everything else) are out.
Season 3 is expected to once again centre on the show’s main trio:
- Harry (Tom Hardy)
- Maeve (Helen Mirren)
- Conrad (Pierce Brosnan)
The executive producer line-up reads like a who’s who of British crime drama: Ronan Bennett, Jez Butterworth, David Glasser, and Guy Ritchie himself.
If you’re wondering about the rest of the cast, it’s still a solid crew: Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Janet McTeer, Jordi Molia, Toby Jones, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan, and Emily Barber.
One source summed up the new peace with this:
'We had an open meeting, everyone put their cards on the table and came away ready to move forward together.'
