Miles Teller has offered a fresh update on Top Gun 3 — and even fielded a Top Gun 4 question — during a recent television chat with Jimmy Kimmel.

Let’s have a chat about Top Gun 3, a subject that just won’t stay down for long. Now, you might’ve caught the latest from Miles Teller himself, who popped up on telly the other night and managed to both fuel the rumour mill and send it spinning completely off piste, thanks to Jimmy Kimmel's oddball suggestion about the film’s future.

The on-air exchange

So, this all started when Jimmy Kimmel decided to bring up Tom Cruise’s past comments – apparently, Cruise let slip months back that a third instalment of Top Gun was happening. Kimmel tees it up with Teller on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but the response wasn’t exactly a hard confirmation. Teller played it cool, even slightly bewildered that Cruise had made such a comment so publicly.

During the chat, Kimmel says, 'Tom Cruise said there was going to be a Top Gun 3,' and Teller’s reply was simply, 'Oh, he did.'

Kimmel presses on, fishing for any scrap of news: he brings up Cruise’s springtime comments and then just outright asks if Teller knows anything and whether he's definitely on board. Teller, still not giving away much, says he’s aware there’s excitement: Tom, apparently, is off to do something with cars (which is a nod to Days of Thunder, for those keeping score), but Teller is holding out hope Cruise is still up for flying planes as well. No sign-off or casting guarantee, just gentle hedging all round.

Then, the chat takes a left turn: Kimmel jokes about skipping Top Gun 3 entirely and heading straight to Top Gun 4. Teller, warming to the mischief, plays along and even says he’d take the idea straight to Cruise, calling it a 'money-making idea.'

Teller’s words on air: 'Dude, I'll go straight to the top with that idea. That is money-making ideas.'

So, what’s actually happening?

For all the jokes and banter, the only real bit of hard news is that Paramount Pictures is actively developing Top Gun 3. No timelines, no confirmation about Teller reprising his role, and—by the looks of it—not even any major plot points or production dates have slipped out.

Paramount is moving forward on Top Gun 3 — but so far, cast and release date remain a mystery.
