Michael B. Jordan's Miami Vice just added Avengers: Doomsday's Danny Ramirez

Another day, another big name jumping onto a nostalgia-driven blockbuster. Miami Vice '85 — yes, they're rebooting that one — is rapidly collecting half the Marvel roster, and the latest addition is Danny Ramirez, better known as Falcon's successor in the current MCU lineup.

Ramirez, fresh from a turn as Falcon in 'Captain America: Brave New World', is officially on board the cast for Miami Vice '85, joining fellow Marvel alums Michael B. Jordan and Alden Ehrenreich.

Getting the Band Back Together

Let's break down who's who in this ever-expanding cast. First up, there's Michael B. Jordan — you know, Killmonger from Black Panther, who just bagged an Oscar for last year's horror flick Sinners. He was pegged for the lead in Miami Vice '85 all the way back in April, and he’s been attached to the project with Austin Butler ever since those leaks in 2025. For the purists, Jordan's tackling Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, the role Philip Michael Thomas made iconic.

But it doesn’t stop there. Austin Butler, off his run as Elvis, is playing Sonny Crockett — that's Don Johnson's smooth Miami antihero from the original. Joining them: Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story, and recently Marvel's Ironheart) came on board this August. And now Ramirez enters the frame — Marvel’s new Falcon, soon to be seen as the fully-fledged Avenger in Avengers: Doomsday come December.

If you've somehow avoided the original, Miami Vice was the definitive pastel-and-pop-music cop show from 1984 to 1990. The thing practically smuggled '80s culture direct to telly — all designer threads, brash sportscars, and a soundtrack that did most of the heavy lifting. Kosinski's reboot, according to the official blurb, isn't ditching those roots. It’s set in mid-'80s Miami, knee-deep in both glitz and dodgy dealings, and will apparently riff off the pilot and first season — so expect tributes, not a clean slate.

The film is being brought to life by Joseph Kosinski (yes, he of Top Gun: Maverick and F1), shooting for IMAX. Script duty goes to Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler, Andor), which frankly is a promising sign if you like a bit of edge with your sun-kissed shootouts. Production’s under Kosinski and Dylan Clark (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes et al.), with Universal's Sara Scott and Christina Hoffrogge keeping tabs behind the scenes.

Miami Vice '85 is based on the pilot and first season, promising both style and cultural nods to the original — right down to its wild Miami setting and signature soundtrack vibes.

Worth noting, this isn’t the first Miami Vice reboot. 2006 saw a fairly joyless big-screen effort with Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx — but with all due respect, neither was Oscar-toting Michael B. Jordan.

Ramirez: Up Next

For anyone wondering what else Ramirez is up to, he's just wrapped filming De Noche, a 1930s-set drama about two men’s secretive romance, directed by Todd Haynes and starring opposite Pedro Pascal. And if that’s too arthouse, you can catch Ramirez back in superhero mode in Avengers: Doomsday, rolling into cinemas 18 December.
