The Top Gun: Maverick director's Miami Vice has Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler — and now a stand-up comedian
A Street Fighter star is the latest to board Miami Vice ’85 with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, as Joseph Kosinski’s project gathers pace.
Another familiar face has hopped onboard Miami Vice '85, the latest take on the classic franchise, this time from director Joseph Kosinski—you'll know him from Top Gun: Maverick. Joining the already stacked cast is none other than Andrew Schulz, the comedian-turned-actor who's seemingly everywhere at the minute. If you haven't clocked him yet, you're about to.
Who's Who in Miami Vice '85
In Kosinski's upcoming film, we've got Michael B. Jordan set to play Ricardo Tubbs, with Austin Butler taking on James "Sonny" Crockett. That's your new Miami duo sorted. John Leguizamo's playing the main villain, and rounding out the main line-up are Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez. That's more or less parade-level casting right there. Now, Andrew Schulz joins the party—a name that's cropped up so much lately, I'm half expecting to see him selling ice creams in the lobby as well.

The whole project is a Universal Pictures affair, with Kosinski producing under Dylan Clark Productions. Universal's own Sara Scott and Christina Hoffrogge are overseeing for the studio, which looks determined to make this flashier and grittier than your usual remake. Expect to see Miami's 1980s excess getting put under the microscope—cocaine, neon, the lot—with at least a nod to Anthony Yerkovich's original creations (he executive produced the 1980s series with Michael Mann, in case you've lost count of who's who behind the curtain).

Schulz's Blistering Run
Andrew Schulz isn't just blagging it into films off the back of some viral standup. He's actually built up a pretty chunky acting CV of late: he's popping up in the new live-action Street Fighter film, plus Netflix's Tires, MGM's Underdoggs (that one with Snoop Dogg), The Thicket with Peter Dinklage, You People with Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill, and White Men Can't Jump with Jack Harlow. He also just wrapped filming on Apple's sports flick Running. Not bad for someone who, until recently, was mostly making stadiums full of people laugh.
Speaking of stadiums, Schulz has just finished his Life Tour, which sold out everywhere from Madison Square Garden and LA's biggest arenas to two packed nights in Toronto. Chalk up more than 70 arenas and theatres across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and as far as Australia. He wrapped the whole thing with a Netflix special, also called Life, filmed at New York City's Beacon Theatre. Safe to say, he's earning that ticket to Hollywood.
