Prime Video has set the release date for Good Omens Season 3, reuniting David Tennant and Michael Sheen for another heaven-and-hell romp alongside Jon Hamm, Doon Mackichan, and more. The fantasy comedy, a 2019 breakout with critics, is gearing up to return soon.

Get ready for one last trip through the end times (again): Good Omens is officially back for Season 3. Sort of. If you were hoping for another full binge-worthy season, grab your popcorn for a single, extra-long episode instead. Yep, Prime Video is dropping the series finale on May 13, and it’s clocking in at 90 minutes. Not six episodes, just one. I know – bold move for a show that built its whole vibe on quirky world-building and long-simmering banter.

Wait, Just One Episode?

This isn’t a typo or a weird marketing stunt: Season 3 of Good Omens is a feature-length episode, not a full season. That’s how the creators (Neil Gaiman included) are wrapping things up, and honestly, after that Season 2 cliffhanger, we probably should've seen something dramatic coming. The official Prime Video release date is May 13, so mark your calendar for… well, 90 minutes of potentially apocalyptic closure.

Who’s Returning?

The core duo is back: Michael Sheen as the anxious angel Aziraphale, and David Tennant as Crowley, the demon everyone secretly wishes would show up at their dinner party. The show’s poster for this last hurrah puts Sheen and Tennant front and center – honestly, they've carried the whole project since day one.

And what about Jon Hamm, who plays the not-so-bright Archangel Gabriel? Last we saw him, he was basically floating around the universe, blissed out and off the board. Hamm himself addressed this, saying:

'That's a good question! That's up to people whose paychecks are significantly larger than mine, so I'll leave that to them... I think [Gabriel]'s found his true love and is floating the universe somewhere. So there's always a chance that he will re-coalesce in some way, shape, or form. So here's hoping.'

Translation: Hamm has no idea if Gabriel is in the finale, but he isn’t ruling out a cameo. So fans hoping for the full gang may or may not get their wish.

How We Got Here: A Quick Recap

  • Season 1 launched in May 2019 and was an instant critical hit (currently at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 94% audience score – pretty impressive for a snarky ‘end of the world’ comedy).
  • After a four-year gap, Season 2 arrived on Prime Video in July 2023, leaving viewers with dramatic unresolved business.
  • Filming for this final chapter actually wrapped up last April – so, yes, it’s been sitting in Prime Video's vaults for a while.
  • This year, the streaming service finally confirmed the 'Season 3' release, though calling it a season feels like a stretch, given the runtime.

The Whole Story, in a Nutshell

Good Omens was always an oddball project – adapted from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s cult-favorite 1990 novel, it followed Aziraphale and Crowley, one angel, one demon, both trying (and failing) to keep humanity from blowing itself up. Season 2 surprised a lot of people by existing at all, and even more people by ending with unresolved feelings and a heavy dose of heartbreak.

In an interview, David Tennant spelled out just how bumpy the journey to the finale has been: 'We’re doing Good Omens again. We’re going back to do the final. We’re doing a final. There’s been a slight rejig with the personnel. But we still get to tell that story which I think it would have been very difficult to leave it on a cliffhanger. So I’m glad that’s been worked out.' In other words: yes, things behind the scenes have been messy, but they’re determined not to leave fans hanging.

So here we are. One final episode to tie up all the celestial and infernal loose ends. Is 90 minutes really enough? Guess we’ll find out on May 13. At least, for once, you won’t have to set aside a whole weekend to watch the apocalypse play out.
