Marvel’s Locking Tom Holland Out of Avengers: Secret Wars — to Save the Surprises
In a new interview about Avengers: Secret Wars, Tom Holland discussed how much Marvel tells him — and hinted at the logic behind keeping him in the dark.
Here we go again: Tom Holland, our favourite spoiler-happy web-slinger, says even he hasn't got a clue what's happening with Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel's apparently keeping everything firmly under wraps — and honestly, you can't blame them given Holland's, let’s say, enthusiastic track record with secrets.
In Tom Holland's own words during a chat with Josh Horowitz: "I swear to you, Josh, that I have no idea what Secret Wars is about. And I think that it is by design, because Marvel knows I'm going on this press tour and that is their biggest asset. I think it's really important that no one ruins it."
Marvel's Secret Strategy
It's hardly a mystery why Marvel is giving Holland the mushroom treatment (kept in the dark, fed on... well, never mind). He’s become something of a meme for leaking big reveals, sometimes by pure accident, sometimes he reckons to stir up some hype. In fact, Holland admits he's "pretty loose-lipped," but only because he's genuinely excited — and to be fair, that enthusiasm is hard to fake. He said there have even been times where they've leaned into his reputation to light up the internet a bit.
Case in point, he's slipped up before: he let slip that Marvel were plotting a Spider-Man trilogy before anything was official; and then there was the time he burst onto stage at a special Infinity War screening, blurted out "I'm still alive!" and then clocked that the audience hadn't even seen the film yet. Classic Tom.
Cast, Cameos, and Radio Silence
Getting precious details out of Holland is like squeezing water from a stone — not for lack of trying but because he genuinely doesn't know this time. He even shared a recent anecdote about holidaying with Joe Russo, one of the directors involved in the next Avengers films, and said Russo told him absolutely nothing about any secret ensemble business. The bloke's been in the Marvel mix since his debut in Civil War back in 2016, but he's still out of the loop for this one, for everyone's sake.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day — Holland's next confirmed appearance as Peter Parker, swinging into cinemas 31 July 2026
- Secret Wars and Avengers: Doomsday — no official word from Marvel or Sony about Holland’s involvement just yet
- Brand New Day is already off to a flyer, pulling in 91% on Rotten Tomatoes after early reviews
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits cinemas on 31 July 2026, Holland's next big adventure with the web-shooters.
Marvel locking Holland out of the loop is probably the wisest course — at least if they want to keep Secret Wars (well) secret, and avoid adding to his long list of legendary leaks.
