Fresh off joining The Batman Part 2, Sebastian Stan offers an update on his Marvel future, teasing where the Winter Soldier heads next as he returns as Bucky Barnes in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday.

If you thought Sebastian Stan was on his way out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe just because he’s now moonlighting over in Gotham, think again. The bloke’s just landed a role in The Batman Part 2, sending certain corners of comic book fandom into meltdown, but it turns out he’s no intention of hanging up Bucky Barnes’s metal arm just yet.

Stan’s Still Got Time for Marvel

Fans have been speculating like mad ever since Stan’s name cropped up for Matt Reeves’ next Batman film—let’s be honest, crossing the streams between DC and Marvel talent always raises eyebrows. So, is he finally breaking up with Marvel after all these years?

Stan was cornered about the whole affair during Cannes—nothing like a glitzy film festival for awkward questions—and he didn’t dodge. Addressing his Marvel future, he said:

'It’s sort of like having a sibling you’ve never known you had, who you’ve spent 15 years with. There’s been a comfort there returning every few years, which hopefully I’ll keep doing.'

Clear enough: he’s not clocking off just because he fancies a bit of Gotham rain. Stan is still game for popping up as Winter Soldier and, from the sound of it, he expects to be turning up in MCU films for a while yet—even after this year’s Avengers: Doomsday rolls out. (If you’re keeping score, there’s no word yet on official casting for Avengers: Secret Wars, which is the film after Doomsday.)

What’s He Doing in The Batman Part 2?

Now, as for Stan’s character in The Batman Part 2: well, it’s all very hush-hush. The rumour mill’s been churning out wild guesses—most popular is Harvey Dent/Two-Face, but honestly, at this stage, nobody’s got hard info. And to really stir the pot, the film also went and cast Scarlett Johansson, another Marvel mainstay, in an as-yet-undisclosed role. No one said DC was subtle about poaching MCU talent.

Quick Recap: Stan’s Not Just a Superhero Bloke

  • Took serious critical praise for playing Donald Trump (yes, that Donald Trump) in The Apprentice.
  • Popped up in films like A Different Man, the dark comedy thriller Fresh, and the sharp-tongued biopic I, Tonya.
  • First showed up as Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)—he’s clocked up over half a dozen appearances as Bucky/Winter Soldier across Marvel films and TV series since.

Stan’s keeping his options open, hopping between cinematic universes and the odd prestige drama, but make no mistake—he hasn’t packed up his Marvel kit bag yet.
