Marvel Finally Answers: Is Vision Back for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars?
Paul Bettany isn’t spilling on Vision’s fate in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, sticking to the expected non-answer as Marvel keeps its roster under wraps. For now, the synthezoid remains unconfirmed for both blockbusters.
If you follow the Marvel machine, you probably already know that Avengers: Doomsday and the follow-up, Secret Wars, are set to explode onto movie screens in 2026 and 2027. These movies are gearing up to throw pretty much every superhero in existence into the ring, so everyone's playing guessing games about which faces will actually show up on screen. Naturally, that means Vision is in the crosshairs — but as of now, no official word from Marvel if the mostly polite synthezoid will return to the fight.
Paul Bettany 'Answers' the Question (Sort Of)
Paul Bettany, aka the guy under all that red facepaint, recently popped up on Josh Horowitz's 'Happy, Sad, Confused' podcast and got hit with the inevitable question: Is Vision coming back for Doomsday or Secret Wars?
Bettany did what any Marvel actor does when they want to keep their NDA deposit — he said basically nothing in a way that sounds intriguing:
'I think so. I mean, I think, you know, as much as much as — touch wood, kids in private school. You know, anything going on at Marvel, or they change their mind, you really do never know. It's true that you never know, by the way.'
Translation: He may or may not know, or he may or may not be allowed to say, and Marvel might change its mind anyway. So — a solid maybe?
Bettany also shared a little behind-the-scenes story that puts Marvel's secrecy into perspective. Back when they were shooting Avengers: Infinity War, he and his co-stars literally found out who was getting the axe by being shown a special trailer. Imagine a room full of actors watching a pre-viz reel and suddenly realizing, 'Oh, I die.' No prior warnings, just an awkward group watch party. That's how tight Marvel keeps its secrets — even for the people on set.
The Vision Timeline: Where's the Android Headed Next?
Even with the fog around the big movies, there are some hard facts we can bank on:
- Paul Bettany previously hinted in a Telegraph interview that he has some 'Avengers duties next year.' He might be trolling, but, hey, the guy has to make a living.
- VisionQuest is official — the solo Disney+ series lands October 14, 2026. The first teaser dropped at Disney's Upfronts on May 13, 2026. Terry Matalas is running the show, and the cast is actually stacked with names: James Spader (Ultron fans, rejoice), Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, James D'Arcy, Orla Brady, Emily Hampshire, and Ruaridh Mollica.
- Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18, 2026. The Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe) are back in the director's chairs, which means expect spectacle, time-jumps, and maybe three versions of Chris Evans.
- Avengers: Secret Wars is on deck for December 17, 2027, with the Russos also at the helm, setting up what will almost certainly be a multiversal fever dream.
So yeah, even if Vision's Marvel future is as hazy as ever, we're definitely getting more Bettany — at least on Disney+. Whether that leads directly to Avengers-level heroics is officially TBD, but let's be honest: Marvel rarely leaves a good android on the bench, especially with two cosmic-sized team-ups coming.
