Kevin Feige won’t bite on which Ghost Rider Ryan Gosling could play in the MCU
In Hall H, Kevin Feige talked up Gosling’s Ghost Rider as a personal spin.
Well, the rumours were true: Ryan Gosling is officially bringing a flaming skull and a motorbike to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel dropped the big news at their Hall H event at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, with Kevin Feige himself confirming Gosling will be your new Ghost Rider. Apparently, Gosling has already had quite a bit of say in shaping this version of the Spirit of Vengeance. Not exactly a bloke who phoned it in, then.
The film’s being steered by director Shawn Levy, with Jonathan Tropper on script duty. If you’re hoping to watch it any time soon, don’t hold your breath—Marvel’s chiselled in a 2028 theatrical release. So, yes, patience is absolutely required here.

Who’s Under the Skull?
Naturally, the biggest question now is which Ghost Rider Gosling will be. There have been a couple over the years—Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch—and fans have already started speculating wildly. Feige, in a post-panel chat with Comicbook.com, deliberately kept things mysterious, saying he’s leaving that reveal entirely in Gosling’s hands. Here’s how Feige laid it out once the panel dust settled:
“I am going to let Ryan reveal what he wants to reveal when he wants to reveal it, and what he wanted to reveal today was he’s playing Ghost Rider.”
Useful, that. Feige did let slip that Gosling turns out to be a proper comic nerd, even pitching Marvel with his own particular vision for the character. Apparently, Gosling was pretty clear about which part of Ghost Rider’s comic legacy he wants on screen, and Feige hinted that the whole film is being built around that. What exactly Gosling’s up to? For now, that’s locked up tighter than Doctor Strange’s spellbook.
Midnight Sons Hints
Now, because this is Marvel, fans are already parsing every word in search of clues. Feige’s reference to Gosling’s deep dive into certain comics has people whispering about the legendary “Rise of the Midnight Sons” storyline—a 90s fan favourite that tied together Blade, Doctor Strange, both Ghost Riders, plus a few lesser-known types like the Darkhold Redeemers. With Mahershala Ali’s Blade still floating around the MCU and Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight in play, it looks like Marvel’s assembling the pieces for that crossover some have been wanting for ages. If you’re betting, that’s the arc to keep an eye on.
Let’s not forget, this will make Gosling the second big-screen Ghost Rider, after the absolute chaos of Nicolas Cage’s interpretation (twice, if you recall) back when Sony had the rights. For now, though, where exactly Marvel’s going with the character—and which version Gosling will actually play—remains a very deliberately kept secret.
