Kevin Feige’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day verdict hits the sweet spot for fans
In a fresh Collider sit-down, Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal offered their take on Spider-Man: Brand New Day — and it came with more than polite studio-speak.
When you get both Kevin Feige, the Marvel mastermind, and Amy Pascal, the top dog at Sony, raving about a film before it’s even out, you know you might be onto something. Their latest collaboration? Spider-Man: Brand New Day — and by all accounts, they’re as chuffed as you’re likely to see studio execs get.
They Actually Cheered
Apparently, during a recent chat with Collider, Feige and Pascal straight up described their first viewing of Destin Daniel Cretton’s director’s cut as a bit of a revelation. Pascal admitted that ‘it was the first time’ she and Feige have ever literally stood up and applauded after a director’s cut wrapped. Maybe that doesn’t sound too wild until you remember how many Marvel films these two have sat through. But that was their reaction — ‘that’s how good Destin is’ was her exact wording. No shortage of enthusiasm.
Moving from general hype to specifics, the interviewer pointed out those all-important, classic shots of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man swinging through New York. Pascal explained that bringing Spidey back as a proper part of New York City again was always the plan for this one. If you’re someone who thought Holland’s version has maybe been missing that classic city-hopping energy, apparently, they’ve noticed it too.
Comic Book Callback
Feige didn’t miss his chance to gush about Cretton’s knack for pulling in the source material either. According to Feige, the director drew from proper comic book covers — down to some page-specific visuals — and even took inspiration from the PlayStation Spider-Man game. He says that’s added a whole new look to the way Spidey moves and fights in this film. Not just fan service — actual effort.

For continuity nerds (and let’s not pretend some of you don’t live for this): this one’s set four years after No Way Home, and before the looming Avengers: Doomsday (so expect plenty of speculation about how these all slot together). For trivia completists: Destin Daniel Cretton directs his first Spider-Man film here, using a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It’s Holland’s fourth go in the tights.

Plot-wise, things sound a bit more existential this time: Peter’s living in a world that’s completely forgotten him, wrestling with changes he can’t control, though these very changes might be what it takes to save New York from an as-yet-undisclosed threat. Yeah, the log line is a bit vague, but for this lot, that’s par for the course.
