Kathryn Newton Suits Up Again as Cassie Lang in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday
The MCU just got bigger: Kathryn Newton is suiting up again as Cassie Lang, aka Stature, for Avengers: Doomsday.
Well, Marvel is at it again. Not long after the studio whipped up some hype with the first 'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer at CinemaCon, they're doubling down by bringing back another familiar face: Kathryn Newton is officially returning as Cassie Lang. For anyone who zoned out during last year's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' (I wouldn’t blame you), Newton played Scott Lang’s daughter—the next-gen superhero with some serious size-changing potential.
Newton Goes Full Influencer Mode (With a Tiny Chair)
If you missed Newton’s announcement, don’t worry, because it was... unique. She dropped the news on social media in the form of an unboxing video. Remember those? It’s definitely not what you expect for MCU casting news, but Marvel loves a cute marketing gimmick.
In the video, Newton carefully unwraps what turns out to be a mini director’s chair—yep, that’s a straight-up callback to her character Cassie’s whole deal with Pym Particles (shrinking, growing, you get it).
'When Marvel sends you bubble wrap and a tiny prop chair, you know you’re officially back in superhero territory.'
All the Wild Stuff Packed into the Doomsday Trailer
As for the actual movie? The CinemaCon trailer for 'Avengers: Doomsday' was crammed with the kind of crossover insanity the MCU loves to unleash. Here’s what stood out:
- Shang-Chi is brawling with Gambit (remember him? Still rocking the cards, apparently)
- Mystique impersonates Yelena (because, of course)
- The Fantastic Four meets the Thunderbolts (finally, some team-up chaos)
- Thor is now running the Avengers, and he’s in full-on 'grizzled leader' mode—he straight up tells everyone, "Mark my words, we are going to need a miracle."
- And to top it all, Steve Rogers shows up. Thor isn’t buying it until Rogers grabs Mjolnir. Crowd went wild, as expected.
- We even get our first peek at Dr. Doom, masked and menacing, with a classic villain voiceover for good measure.
Newton’s Busy Schedule—And a Possible Redemption Arc
Back to Newton for a second. Hollywood clearly wants as much Kathryn Newton as possible right now. She just wrapped 'Ready or Not 2: Here I Come' with Samara Weaving, and she’s shooting the horror-comedy 'White Elephant' for director Eli Craig. That one’s about an annual holiday gift swap that morphs into what sounds like a straight-up bloodbath (Newton, Madeleine Arthur, Nick Jonas, KJ Apa, and a bunch more are in on it).
I’ll be honest, 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' didn’t do Newton—or the Cassie Lang character—any favors. The movie’s not exactly top-tier Marvel. Still, the comics version of Cassie is a highlight of the Young Avengers crew, and Newton’s got way more to offer. Fingers crossed the script actually lets her stand out in 'Doomsday'.
Any bets on who else might pop up in this overstuffed MCU event? Drop your wildest guesses in the comments. Otherwise, get ready to see Cassie (and probably a lot of other Marvel regulars) when 'Avengers: Doomsday' eventually hits theaters.
