Jurassic Park star Sam Neill says he’s cancer-free after a five-year battle and is already gearing up for his next project, revealing that when chemotherapy failed, a last-resort, cutting-edge cell-modifying treatment turned the tide.

Here’s a bit of good news straight out of Jurassic Park land: Sam Neill—yeah, Dr. Alan Grant himself—just let everyone know he’s finally cancer-free after a pretty harrowing five-year battle. Neill also spilled some updates on what he’s got coming up work-wise now that he’s officially on the mend.

Five Years, A Lot of Chemo, and a Last-Ditch Treatment

Neill sat down with Australia’s 7News and opened up about the roller coaster he’s been on since his lymphoma diagnosis. To put it bluntly: chemo didn’t really do the trick. He credits it for buying him some time, but eventually it just... quit working. Here’s the way Neill described that turning point:

'I was at a loss and it looked like I was on the way out, which wasn’t ideal obviously.'

At that point, it was either find a miracle or brace for the worst. Thankfully, a new type of treatment—CAR T-cell therapy—was brought up as the Hail Mary pass. If that sounds like sci-fi to you, you’re not wrong. It basically involves doctors retooling your own immune cells in the lab so they can finally spot, attack, and kill off the sneaky cancer cells that were previously hiding out.

The Results: Beating Cancer, Looking Ahead

Neill’s scan came back clear, and he says he’s now cancer-free. His reaction? Exactly the kind of understatement you’d expect from the guy who kept a straight face facing a pack of CGI velociraptors:

'Extraordinary.'

To be fair, before this breakthrough he described himself as “standing on the edge of the cliff”—something he does not suggest trying at home.

What’s Next For Neill?

After all that, the guy’s not retiring to his vineyard just yet. His words:

'It’s time I did another movie.'
  • The Fox
  • Godzilla x Kong: Supernova
  • The Last Resort

Those are the three films Sam’s actively working on now. So, yes, if you were worried cancer was going to keep him down for the count, you can stop. Expect to see him back on screens—just maybe with a renewed appreciation for how wild a second chance at life can be.
