Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen thriller Panic Carefully pushes back release date

If you thought Sam Esmail would take a breather after Leave the World Behind, think again — he’s back in paranoid thriller territory, this time bringing Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen along for the ride in a film called Panic Carefully. Word is that it’s the kind of proper suspense piece you’d expect from the Mr. Robot creator, but if you’ve been counting down the days till release, you’ll need to double-check your diary. Warner Bros. has decided to move the date… and they’re not saying why.

The new date, if you want to make plans early

Panic Carefully is now scheduled to hit cinemas (and IMAX, if that’s your thing) on 9 April 2027. That’s a solid six weeks later than its previous release date of 26 February 2027. Classic Warner Bros. behaviour — change the plans, offer not a peep as to what’s really going on. Studio silence aside, the film stays firmly on the 2027 line-up, so it’s not vanished into development limbo. Just delayed a bit.

• Director and Writer: Sam Esmail. The man's got a reputation for tech-fuelled paranoia, and apparently we're getting more of the same. If you liked Mr. Robot or your nerves were shredded by The Silence of the Lambs, expect echoes of both.
• Plot details: Absolutely bare bones. All we’ve got is that it’s about tracking down a cyber-terrorist. So, yes, we're in the dark, but likely on purpose — they're not giving the whole game away.
