'There are a lot of steps, so I wouldn’t want to put a timeline on it. But in terms of finding a core idea, they seem to have landed on something that they are excited about, and now we’ll see,' Fogelson said.

Two spin-offs are officially in the pipeline—one features Donnie Yen’s blind assassin Caine (which is absolutely the right spinoff, in my opinion), and the other is an animated prequel. Both of those are expected to hit screens before 'Wick 5' drops, so expect the world of assassins, hotel rules, and gold coins to keep expanding while the main story gets figured out behind the scenes.

• Box office: All four films together have pulled in north of $1 billion globally—so yes, people are still very, very into gun-fu.
• Critics: Reviewers haven’t just shrugged and cashed the check. The original scored about 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, Chapter 2 bumped that to 89%, while Chapters 3 and 4 were both in the low-to-mid 90s. So, somehow, these things just kept getting better.
• What fans love: Two big things—those slick, no-shaky-cam action sequences and the way the movies build out their bizarre little criminal society. Also, Keanu sells it, even when the plot goes off the rails.
