John Goodman joins The Beast in Me season 2 as Claire Danes’ con-artist father
John Goodman is heading to a Netflix crime thriller for Season 2 — opposite Claire Danes, no less.
If you've been sucked in by The Beast in Me on Netflix—like, apparently, half the planet—there's a shiny bit of casting news worth noting: John Goodman is joining the fold for Season 2. The man's 74, but you wouldn't know it given how busy he's kept himself lately. Honestly, this show was already strong, but sticking Goodman opposite Claire Danes? That's got my attention—and probably Netflix's algorithm as well.
The Beast in Me first landed in 2025 and immediately took the top spot on Netflix's Global Top 10 chart.
New Face, Same Family Drama
So, here's where things get interesting: Goodman's set to play Claire Danes' dad. Not your average supportive father-figure either—his character's described as a proper, seasoned con artist. Danes is back as Agatha ('Aggie') Wiggs, still scribbling away as an author when she's not tangled up in psychological warfare. If Season 2 doubles down on the twisted family stuff, expect things to get weird in the best way.
No plot details have dropped beyond that (Netflix loves a secret more than most governments), but we do know the main creative crew is sticking around. Howard Gordon and Daniel Pearle are back running the show as co-showrunners. Both will keep their executive producer hats on, joined by Danes herself and series creator Gabe Rotter. Also squeezed into the producer's circle: Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Conan O'Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross, and Jodie Foster. It's almost a mini murderers' row behind the scenes.
By The Numbers
- Season 1 dropped in 2025
- Pulled in the No. 1 slot on Netflix's Global Top 10
- Racked up 43 million views in 7 weeks
- Got into the Top 10 in 88 countries
- Current scores: 85% Tomatometer, 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes
- Netflix ordered Season 2 in September 2026
As for Goodman's latest gigs, you might've caught him most recently sharing scenes with Tom Cruise in Alejandro G. Iñárritu's 'Digger', playing a US president named Compson—so yes, this isn't a man short of important roles. There's more Goodman lined up for HBO's The Last of Us Season 3, and of course, he was sturdy as ever on The Righteous Gemstones and The Conners.
The show comes out of 20th Television for Netflix. Even with all this confirmed, Netflix is refusing to pin down a release date for Season 2—typical. But with Goodman in the mix, whatever they're cooking up, it's bound to get talked about.
