Jessica Jones Almost Beat Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Back to the MCU
Seven years after vanishing from the MCU, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones storms back in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 6 — and the Breaking Bad alum says she nearly returned much sooner, with comeback talks dating to 2023.
So, we finally got Krysten Ritter back as Jessica Jones in the MCU. After what felt like an eternity (technically, seven years), she made her comeback on Daredevil: Born Again, season 2, episode 6. But here's the kicker: she almost showed up much earlier.
Jessica Jones: The Return That Almost Happened (Sooner)
In a classic Marvel move, there were actually talks about having Ritter’s Jessica Jones show up in Daredevil: Born Again season 1. That was way back in 2023—about two and a half years before her actual return. Apparently, Ritter was ready to go at a moment's notice, still keeping her metaphorical PI trenchcoat on standby, just waiting for the call. But, as with most things Marvel, the timing didn’t work out. So, we waited. And waited.
'There was some talk about me appearing in the first season... I have everything ready. I’ll be ready. And then, lucky for me, they did bring Jessica back, and I’m so thrilled. I kept the secret for a long time. I was asked about it constantly, and I just had to come up with new excuses and, I don’t know, cute responses.'
— Krysten Ritter, Entertainment Weekly
For context: the last time anyone saw Jessica Jones onscreen was in 2019, when her Netflix show wrapped for good. So when she showed up on Born Again this year, it was a genuine surprise, not least because the character’s been MIA both in the MCU and in-universe.
Where's Jessica Been?
Season 2 brings us up to speed: Jessica Jones is done with city PI life. She’s out in the suburbs, full-on mom mode, raising her daughter. That is, until some new baddie named Mr. Charles threatens her kid. Cue classic Jessica—they pull her back in. She teams up with Matt Murdock because, let’s face it, trouble just seems to find both of them.
Keeping Secrets, Dodging Rumors
Here’s a little 'industry shuffle': when Ritter got the call about season 2, she was in the middle of filming Dexter: Resurrection. That actually worked in her favor—the crew in New York saw her there and assumed she was on Dexter duty, not Daredevil business. So she managed to keep her Born Again appearance under wraps for even longer, despite what must have been a never-ending stream of fan questions and wild guesses.

So, yes, Jessica Jones was almost back a season earlier. But given how secretive Marvel gets about everything—and how easily rumor mills spin out of control—it’s kind of amazing they managed to actually surprise anyone this time.
If you’re wondering what’s next, episode 7 drops April 28th. Jessica’s not out of the MCU yet, and honestly, it’s about time.
