Jared Leto is reportedly pocketing a multi-million paycheck to play Skeletor, and the number is already turning heads as Masters of the Universe muscles back into theaters. With a stacked cast and big-budget swagger, the reboot has fans zeroing in on how Leto’s villain will fuel He-Man’s comeback.

Hollywood is getting the Masters of the Universe crowd back in one room, and someone at Amazon MGM has decided that Jared Leto’s Skeletor is worth a king’s ransom. Yes, Leto is playing the infamous villain, and he’s done rather well for himself – to the tune of more than $5 million if you believe industry insiders. That’s a lot of cash to put on the evil skull’s table, even for a star who’s never been one to play it subtle.

Leto’s Big Payday: What’s the Story?

If you’re wondering exactly how much Amazon MGM shelled out, let’s get specific. Puck News claims Jared Leto received north of $5 million for stepping into Skeletor’s boots (and, presumably, both prosthetics and about a gallon of CGI). The deal apparently covers the whole package – acting in the film as well as running the press gauntlet when the time comes. For the record, Amazon MGM isn’t officially confirming the number, but it’s out there all the same.

The Budget’s Not Exactly Modest, Either

This Masters of the Universe reboot isn’t cheap. The reported production budget hovers around $175 million, so Leto’s payday is just one line item on what is clearly a big and shiny spreadsheet. It’s not just the effects or the marketing – it’s a stacked cast as well.

Meet the New Masters: The Cast

  • Nicholas Galitzine – Prince Adam (a.k.a. He-Man)
  • Jared Leto – Skeletor (obviously)
  • Camila Mendes – Teela
  • Idris Elba – Duncan / Man-At-Arms
  • Alison Brie – Evil-Lyn
  • Morena Baccarin – the Sorceress

Not a bad crowd for a trip back to Eternia.

Leto’s Love of Costume Drama (and, Seemingly, Cheques)

For anyone who’s been tracking Leto’s career, this feels bang on brand. The bloke already did the full Oscar circuit for Dallas Buyers Club, then ran the gamut from Blade Runner 2049 to House of Gucci and the less-loved Morbius. He’s also said yes to Tron: Ares and manages to squeeze in ceremonial frontman duties with Thirty Seconds to Mars between gigs. The through-line? He gravitates towards roles where the costume budget rivals the special effects. If anyone was going to be game for the slap of blue makeup and a CGI jaw, it was always him.

What’s the Film Actually About?

As for the plot: Prince Adam (Galitzine) stumbles back home to Eternia after some extended Earth time. He’s got Skeletor to worry about – Leto in full-tilt villain mode – and the usual battle for power is on. Travis Knight is directing this one; you might know him from Bumblebee or Kubo and the Two Strings, so cinematic action is basically in safe hands.

They dropped the first trailer in March 2026, which means yes, the film’s still ahead of us, and yes, that epic Power Sword transformation is in. No word yet on whether there’s a post-credits stinger involving Battle Cat.

"Jared Leto was paid more than $5 million to play Skeletor in the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie."
