Inde Navarrette passed on a role in Leonardo DiCaprio’s Heat 2 — and the reason, plus which part she passed up, have now been revealed.

Right, here’s something for anyone who’s been keeping tabs on the casting shuffle for Michael Mann’s Heat 2 or the endless swirl of Marvel mutant rumours. Inde Navarrette, best known for The Obsession, was apparently a frontrunner to join the long-awaited Heat 2 – that is, until she landed a gig in the next big Marvel movie and had to bow out.

Why Navarrette Walked

Navarrette was in line to play Sharlene – the same character Ashley Judd made memorable back in the 1995 original. She’d have been on screen opposite names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale, with Michael Mann directing again and the whole thing built around the bestselling 2022 novel he wrote with Meg Gardiner. Heat 2 isn’t just tacked onto the original; it covers several timelines and mixes prequel with sequel, so you get both new backstory and what comes next for those familiar faces.

There’s a real queue of big hitters circling this film. Besides DiCaprio and Bale, reports keep throwing out Adam Driver, Austin Butler and Bradley Cooper as likely names somewhere in the cast.

Inde Navarrette stepped away from Heat 2 after accepting a lead part in Marvel’s X-Men reboot.

The wrinkle? Navarrette’s been snapped up by Marvel Studios for their new version of X-Men, which meant she had to walk away from Mann’s project. Not exactly a minor career choice – she’s gone for the superheroic juggernaut over what’d have been a juicy crime role.

Navarrette’s Leap to X-Men

Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige announced Navarrette as the new Rogue when he unveiled the X-Men cast at Disney’s D23. If you remember the original Fox films, Rogue was Anna Paquin’s territory, and she’s a mutant who can pretty much hoover up other mutants’ powers with just a touch. Paquin is confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday alongside some of the old Fox X-Men, including Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, and Rebecca Romijn – but nobody’s saying yet if she’ll pop up in the reboot itself.

  • Rogue: Inde Navarrette
  • Jean Grey: Sadie Sink
  • Cyclops: Kit Connor
  • Emma Frost: Samara Weaving
  • Professor X: Christopher Abbott
  • Storm: Maya Boyd
  • Mr. Sinister (villain): Adam Driver

Oh, and if you’re counting down, the new X-Men flick is officially lined up for release on 5 May 2028, which gives everyone time to revisit the complicated mess that is the X-Men cinematic timeline (if you’re into that sort of self-torture).

The MCU’s X-Men reboot is set to premiere in cinemas on 5 May 2028.

So: Navarrette trades Michael Mann crime for Marvel spandex – and in doing so, steps into a proper legacy role. Heat 2, meanwhile, is still star-studded, but that Judd-replacement spot is now wide open again.
