After more than a decade off the big screen, Ice Age charges back as 20th Century Studios drops the first trailer for Ice Age: Boiling Point at CinemaCon—teasing fan favorite Scrat navigating parenthood with a baby in tow.

Well, dust off your nostalgia goggles because the Ice Age gang is officially back. At this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, 20th Century Studios finally showed off the first trailer for 'Ice Age: Boiling Point'—their first theatrical Ice Age movie in more than a decade. Yes, you read that right; it’s been almost as long as an actual ice age.

Scrat’s Doing the Dad Thing Now

The trailer pulls us right back into the snow, but this time, it’s all about Scrat. You know, the sabre-toothed squirrel who’s been torturing himself—and us—with that acorn obsession for five films now. Except now, there’s a twist. Scrat’s a dad, and he’s raising a rambunctious baby squirrel. (Don’t worry, the acorn legacy lives on.) The sneak peek shows Scrat and his kid squabbling over that same pesky acorn, until dad offers a baby-sized acorn, which the little one uses as a pacifier. Cute, brief moment of peace.

But because this is Ice Age, disaster is never far away. The reunion is cut short when a volcano starts spewing lava—not exactly optimal for a family picnic on the ice. Suddenly Scrat and his kid are playing hopscotch across melting ice pads, dodging hot doom.

The Gang Returns (Yes, the OG Voices Too)

This new installment—officially the sixth—picks up after 2016’s 'Ice Age: Collision Course'. Fans of the originals can relax: the main cast is still onboard. We’re getting classic voices back in the booth:

  • John Leguizamo as Sid
  • Ray Romano as Manny
  • Denis Leary as Diego
  • Queen Latifah as Ellie
  • Simon Pegg back as Buck Wild

In a bit that feels ripped straight from a 'wow, we’re all getting old' montage, Ray Romano himself showed up at CinemaCon to poke fun at the longevity of the series:

'The real Ice Age didn’t last this long. When we did Ice Age 1, I know I wasn’t wearing compression socks or reading glasses.'

And if you’re wondering what the original herd is up to, Queen Latifah previewed that our trio (plus extended family) are facing, her words: 'a little fork in the road in their lives.' So prepare for some midlife reflection, alongside the usual running-from-certain-death shenanigans.

What’s the Actual Plot?

Details are still a little hazy (they’re keeping it close for now), but here’s what’s clear: The herd will be exploring a whole new world thanks to yet another geological meltdown. The big threat this time is an erupting volcano, which in classic Ice Age fashion, sends everyone scrambling in brand new directions. Expect the usual mix of slapstick, danger, and apparently, family growth.

No specific release date yet, but the trailer drop means it’s officially happening. So, buckle up (and maybe bring lava-proof shoes).
