Brad Pitt spends Heart of the Beast alone in Alaska with a dog, and audiences are coming out in tears
Fresh from its theatrical release, Brad Pitt’s Heart of the Beast has some cinemagoers wiping their eyes and praising Brad Pitt and Odin’s touching story.
Right, if you missed it, Heart of the Beast is the new survival drama that’s had quite a few people tearing up in the cinema. The film sticks Brad Pitt in the middle of the miserable and treacherous Alaskan wilderness, teaming him up with a loyal canine companion called Odin. The setup? Pitt plays a former Special Forces chap who, after life goes pear-shaped, ends up trudging through the snow with only his dog for company. Adam MacDonald is in the director’s chair for this one, and it’s not just Pitt starring — he produced it too, because the man apparently never sleeps.
Heart of the Beast boasts a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes from over 100 verified ratings.
The film leans heavily on the bleakness of the Alaskan landscape, using it as the backdrop for all manner of survival set-pieces. In true survival thriller fashion, there’s a steady parade of threats around every frozen corner. But what’s actually stuck with viewers is the central friendship: a man and his dog, both battered by circumstance, managing to keep each other going in the worst conditions imaginable. It’s not especially subtle, but, to be honest, it works.

Much of the buzz comes back to the relationship between Pitt and Odin (or, if you like behind-the-scenes trivia, the dog actor Uber). The pairing apparently hits just the right note, with plenty of audience chatter about how organically their bond grows as things go from bad to worse. Rather than feeling like another paint-by-numbers animal film, you do get the impression these two absolutely need each other.
- One punter on X (that’s @ar3661) gave it a respectable 3.25/5, wishing Pitt had even more to do and calling Odin 'so so good' in the role. (Not that the dog reads its reviews.)
- Another reviewer, @OOCCouchGags, called the whole thing 'as effective as it can get for a survival thriller' and gave props not only to the direction and script but specifically to 'the work done with Uber the dog.'
- And if you want anecdotal evidence, @ShivaTeja1045 was apparently wiping away tears by the end, calling it 'one of the most heartwarming stories' and crediting the emotional connection between Pitt and Odin for keeping them invested all the way through.

It’s worth noting that Heart of the Beast is stacking up proper audience acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter — 96%, with well over a hundred verified audience reviews. Most of the praise singles out the chemistry between Pitt and Uber (yes, the dog is actually named Uber), as well as Pitt’s performance itself. If you’re hoping for subtle or groundbreaking, you might not find it here, but as far as men-and-their-dogs films go, this one’s struck a nerve.
