As fans pile on The Boys’ latest season, Kit Harington is standing by Game of Thrones’ divisive season 8, saying the finale was made by the best people behind the show — and he still backs it.

If you thought Game of Thrones fans were the only ones who knew how to collectively lose their minds over a series finale, think again — The Boys is currently getting its own heap of stick online. But back to Thrones. Kit Harington – the erstwhile Jon Snow – is clearly still wrestling with the fallout of Season 8, and, to be honest, he’s not having any of the backlash, thank you very much.

Kit Harington: Still Flying the Flag for Thrones’ Last Stand

So, this all came out at Motor City Comic Con in Michigan, where Kit was doing the rounds on a panel. Naturally, someone asked him about that finale. You know the one – dragons, politics, wild outrage on every internet forum. Anyway, Kit doubled down on his defence of the ending. He’s still fiercely protective of it, in his own words.

'The season eight thing, guys, I feel very protective of it still… I saw it from the inside. I know how much care and how much love and how much work and how much life went into making it, and the conversations that would have happened and the arguments around the table about what way to go, and what thing to do.'

Basically, he reckons unless you were there, slogging away on set, you can’t really judge just how many late-night headaches went into wrapping up that monster of a series. He admits, sure, maybe mistakes were made – he’s not acting like it was all smooth and flawless – but he also points out that you can’t really ask for a better crew than the ones who gave us the first seven (usually brilliant) seasons.

Why Kit Thinks the Finale Stuck the Landing (Sort Of)

  • Kit argues the showrunners and creative brains who started it all were the best people to finish it, too.
  • He’s aware of the passionate debates and disagreements that shaped the finale, both in the writers’ room and among fans – but, for him, that just shows the effort involved.
  • He says he’ll always stand up for the show as a whole, and even for that divisive final season. Whether everyone loved it or not, he’s firmly sticking by the team and their decisions.

It’s not every day you get a lead actor taking a bullet for a controversial ending – most run for the hills or adopt tactical silence. But Kit’s not pretending to ignore the gripes. He’s just giving a bit of perspective and loyalty to the people who built Westeros from the ground up.

With fans now training their pitchforks on The Boys, it seems TV finales are still the most dangerous game in town. But at least Kit’s willing to go on record for the show that made him King in the North – and, love it or loathe it, you’ve got to respect a bit of old-fashioned loyalty.
