Frozen 3 will open with Anna and Kristoff’s wedding — and bring in a villain more powerful than Elsa
Frozen 3 finally has fresh plot hints, as Disney Animation head Jared Bush told Collider a 'very special' story is coming — with surprises you won’t see coming.
Here we go again: after years of cryptic hints and corporate teasing, we've finally got some genuine details about Frozen 3 — and yes, Disney have decided to crank things up a notch for the next trip to Arendelle.
Fresh Faces & Frozen Foes
From what Disney Animation boss Jared Bush has been willing to spill, the third film’s not just recycling old snow. Expect a proper new villain this time round, and if Bush is to be believed, their power level might even leave Elsa shivering. The baddie’s identity remains strictly under wraps, of course, because apparently Disney have heard about this thing called “plot twists”.
Bush gave a taste of the direction to Collider recently:
We have a brand-new character coming in, a new villain, into the world of Frozen, and someone who may be more powerful than Elsa.
Make of that what you will, but introducing someone more OTT than Elsa is a tall order — unless we're getting a talking volcano or a full-on Norse god.
Weddings, Songs, and Siblings
There’s a time jump, but not enough to leave you feeling like you’ve missed a decade of snowmen in between. The story picks up almost immediately after Frozen 2. Remember how that ended with Kristoff finally proposing to Anna? This third film cuts straight to their wedding, so don't bother expecting an extended engagement. Bush reckoned fans will work out exactly how much time has passed when they watch the thing, but suffice it to say — if you blink, you’ll miss the gap.
This movie starts with their wedding. So, not a whole lot of time has passed between those. How much time? You’ll discover in the film.
Clearly, Disney are betting big on the sheer spectacle of the Anna/Kristoff nuptials. There’s even talk of a new wedding song that’s apparently “spectacular” (presumably it’s been engineered to get stuck in your head until 2030).
- Kristen Bell is back as Anna.
- Idina Menzel returns as Elsa.
- Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff are back as Olaf and Kristoff, obviously.
- Jennifer Lee is once again handling writing and directing duties, having shepherded both previous films.
Beyond the main event wedding, Anna’s got a new journey alongside Elsa — and we’re apparently getting a new member joining the royal family, which Disney have decided not to elaborate on (because why spoil their mysteries for free?).
Frozen 3 hits cinemas on 24 November 2027.
