Fresh update on the X-Men reboot movie, as Sadie Sink addresses her MCU character’s future
Sadie Sink has delivered a major update on the X-Men reboot movie and her MCU future — the sort of reveal you’ll want the detail on.
Fans of the MCU have been chasing scraps about the next wave of X-Men, and now there’s an actual update instead of the usual internet guesswork. Sadie Sink – yes, her from Stranger Things – has lifted the lid a bit on her new role as Jean Grey and how she’ll fit into Marvel’s plans. The news comes on the heels of her debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where she pops up alongside Tom Holland’s Spidey.
Sadie Sink, speaking to Variety about the future of Jean Grey in the MCU and her take on what sets X-Men apart from other superheroes, said: "Yes, she will. It’s been really exciting all the conversations we’ve had, and I feel really lucky that I have this introduction through Spider-Man and [her] backstory. I think that’s what X-Men is all about, too. The more I’ve gotten into it and researched, what makes them special is that they are all incredibly flawed and maybe have done bad things."
The X-Men Approach
Sink didn’t stop there. She’s clearly been putting time into understanding the weirder, messier aspects of X-Men characters. According to her, what makes the mutants compelling isn’t just the flashy powers – it’s the fact that their gifts usually make their lives considerably harder. Sink’s particularly focused on Jean Grey’s inner conflict, hinting that her struggle with her own powers will be front and centre as things move forward. In her words, it sounds like Marvel aren’t glossing over the ‘well-rounded’ bit, so hopefully we’re not losing the drama for the spectacle this time round.
Who’s Actually Cast?
The cast list is about as solid as wet paper right now. Sink is the one sure thing for the X-Men reboot – not counting her cameo in Spider-Man – while official word on the others is still pending.
- Samara Weaving is reportedly tapped for Emma Frost, but no press release out of Marvel HQ just yet.
- Kit Connor (from Heartstopper) has supposedly landed Scott Summers/Cyclops, again, unconfirmed.
- An insider swears Charles Melton (Beef) is in the running to play Beast, aka Dr Hank McCoy.
- Bill Skarsgård (off of IT) is the name floating about for Professor Charles Xavier – for what that’s worth.
Sink freely admits she hasn’t met any of these potential castmates, confirmed or otherwise, but she sounds genuinely hyped for the prospect of a proper ensemble. If nothing else, it means at least one person’s looking forward to these endless casting rumours actually leading somewhere.
Marvel’s X-Men reboot, with Sink as Jean Grey and Jake Schreier directing, is aiming for cinemas in 2028.
The bottom line is, don’t go booking your mutant bingo cards until Marvel itself says something. Every ‘leak’ and rumour from unnamed insiders is just that – a rumour. As of now, Sink’s Jean Grey is the only name you can actually bank on for Jake Schreier’s X-Men reboot.
