Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 leaves viewers with cryptic mid- and post-credits scenes. Discover what these moments might mean for the future of the franchise and its characters.

Emma Tammi’s latest instalment in the Five Nights at Freddy’s saga, co-created with Scott Cawthon, has upended expectations and expanded the series’ mythology. The closing moments of the film see Mike Schmidt and Abby facing a new reality, while Vanessa’s transformation into the Marionette leaves the audience with a host of unresolved questions. Yet, as is often the case with this franchise, the most tantalising hints are reserved for the credits.

Rather than offering neat answers, the film delivers two distinct stingers—one mid-credits, one post-credits—that point towards the direction of a possible third entry. These brief scenes have set fans speculating about what lies ahead for the animatronic universe, which now seems to be taking on the scale and ambition of a cinematic universe.

Mid-Credits: A Haunting Discovery

The first of these scenes unfolds on a rain-soaked night outside the now-derelict Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. A group of scavengers, more interested in memorabilia than theft, break into the abandoned building. Their aim is to collect relics—old posters, fan blades, and animatronic components—for a so-called ‘haunted house’ attraction. This is a clear nod to the third game’s setting, Fazbear’s Fright.

As they explore the decaying corridors, one of the group stumbles upon a hidden chamber not marked on any plans. The camera lingers on a boarded-up safe room, where William Afton, encased in a battered yellow rabbit suit, sits motionless against the wall. Suddenly, Afton’s left eye flickers to life, glowing an ominous purple. A chilling, distorted sound—part human, part machine—erupts from the suit, before the screen cuts abruptly to black.

Post-Credits: A Warning in the Dark

After the credits have rolled, the screen remains black. The only sound is the static of an old cassette tape. The voice of Henry Emily, portrayed by Skeet Ulrich (though the voice is familiar to fans of the games), breaks the silence. He leaves a desperate message for Mike:

“I couldn’t save you then, so let me save you now. Don’t go back. It’s not…”

Before he can finish, he warns that the Marionette is after him. The tape abruptly stops, leaving the audience in silence once more.

Implications for the Franchise

The mid-credits sequence all but confirms that the next film will draw from the Fazbear’s Fright storyline, with the scavengers’ discovery and Afton’s reawakening as Springtrap setting the stage for the series’ most infamous antagonist to return.

The post-credits audio, meanwhile, is a significant development for those invested in the lore. Henry Emily’s warning suggests he is aware of the ongoing threat and is attempting to intervene. The mention of the Marionette implies that Charlotte Emily’s spirit remains a force to be reckoned with, hinting at a potentially tragic confrontation in the future.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 arrives in cinemas on 5 December.
