Filming brings good news for the Ocean’s Eleven prequel as Wagner Moura shares details
Wagner Moura has shared a promising update on the Ocean’s Eleven prequel — and when he’ll start filming — teasing the progress without giving the game away upfront.
Here we go again—Hollywood just can’t resist another flashy Ocean’s Eleven romp, only this time they’re rolling back the clock to the Sixties and setting the whole thing in glitzy Monaco. One bit that’s different though: this actually looks intriguing. Wagner Moura—yes, the bloke from Narcos—has chimed in with a little progress report on where things stand with the next chapter (or rather, the origin chapter) in the Oceans saga.
The Sixties in Monaco, Starring Everybody
Warner Bros. quietly kicked off production on their as-yet-untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel, with Bradley Cooper both in the starring role and wielding the director’s megaphone. Margot Robbie is co-starring, and she’s producing too, roping in her husband Tom Ackerley and their LuckyChap outfit. Wagner Moura joins the cast along with Monica Barbaro. The story’s been kept well behind lock and key, but what’s out in the open is: it’s set in 1962 Monaco and centres on another one of those stylish heists. Fair to bet that means flashy cars and a lot of champagne, whether you actually get character names or not.
The Ocean’s Eleven prequel is coming to cinemas on 25 June 2027.
If you’re following along with the production diary, filming officially started in Paris in late July 2026. The team are planning to move on to Nice and the real Monaco through August, so if you’d like to spot an A-lister by the Mediterranean, now’s your chance.
Wagner Moura Joins After His Play Wraps
Moura is busy treading the boards in Europe right now in "A Trial – after An Enemy of the People", so he hasn’t joined the shoot just yet. He did confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that as soon as he’s done with theatre, he’ll be flying out to join Cooper, Robbie and the rest on location. He sounded genuinely excited to be stepping back into that Sixties vibe.
Talking with The Hollywood Reporter, Moura spilled: 'They’re already shooting it. I’m doing a play here in Europe, and as soon as I wrap that, I’m going to join them.'
Rumour mills have been churning about Moura taking up the villainous spot, but when pressed about his role, he kept it all very mysterious. All he'd say to THR is that he’s playing a part he can’t really talk about, unfortunately. Which, frankly, is standard studio secrecy at this stage—hardly a shock, but still a bit of a tease for anyone wanting to know if he’ll be the one twirling the proverbial moustache.
As for the main event, Ocean’s Eleven in 60s Monaco with a big-name cast, shooting across France and the Riviera, and a three-hander of Cooper, Robbie, and Moura in the mix—well, whatever precise heist they cook up, you don’t have to wait long for more scraps of info. Give it until next summer’s festival circuit and no doubt the first shots will leak.
