Elon Musk just dunked on Homelander’s final-scene meltdown in The Boys season 5, calling it pathetic — and creator Eric Kripke coolly leaned into the jab with a cheeky response.

Well, you don’t exactly expect a superhero show to wrap up with the world’s most notorious billionaire chiming in, do you? But that’s what happened with the latest (and final) season of The Boys. Elon Musk, clearly making the most of his downtime, decided to take a swing at the final moments of Homelander, and, naturally, the internet couldn’t help but notice.

Musk’s Brief but Blunt Verdict

If you’re not up to speed: in The Boys Season 5, Episode 8, things get rough for Homelander. He’s cornered by Billy Butcher, knows he’s absolutely done for, and he panics—in a rather undignified fashion, begging for his life and even offering sexual favours. Not exactly the proud, godlike supe we’ve watched all these years.

Musk, never one to keep opinions to himself, responded to a clip on X (Twitter, for those who still remember 2023) with one word: 'Pathetic'.

Showrunner Eric Kripke’s Perfect Response

Now, some showrunners might bristle at such a high-profile (if slightly random) dig. Not Eric Kripke. He saw Musk’s comment, screenshotted it faster than you can say 'Super V', and gleefully shared it, saying:

'OMG this is his review of what @TheBoysTV did to Homelander, I’ll never get a better review ever.'

Say what you will about Kripke—he knows a golden meme when he sees one. Meanwhile, several cast members apparently joined in, flooding Instagram with cheeky emojis just to let everyone know they’d clocked Musk’s review as well.

It Wasn’t Just Musk—Fans Had Plenty to Say

  • Spin-off Snub: Hardcore fans of Gen V (the Boys spin-off) were a bit hacked off. There was a lot of expectation—especially with all the build-up around Marie Moreau’s character. Everyone seemed convinced she’d play a big hand in Homelander’s downfall. Instead: she was barely in the main battle, mostly left doing crowd control.
  • Poster Promises: Viewers are also calling out the promos for being a bit (ok, a lot) misleading. The posters teased total chaos, Homelander bringing the sky down, and Vought being torn to bits by Butcher. The actual finale? Apparently, a lot less apocalyptic than advertised.

Where’s the Franchise Heading?

All eight episodes of The Boys Season 5 are out on Prime Video now, so if you fancy seeing what all the fuss is about, fill your boots. The main story’s tied off after a fairly wild seven-year run, but, of course, there’s more coming. Next up? Another spin-off: Vought Rising, due to land next year. Because when a universe makes this much noise, you don’t let it end quietly.

So that’s where we’re at: Homelander’s gone out not with a bang, but a whimper—and at least one billionaire is mightily unimpressed. Can’t say it’s the send-off anyone would’ve predicted, but I suppose that’s been the entire ethos of The Boys from the start.
