After Avatar, Edie Falco has her next TV lead — a former public defender dragged back into court
Edie Falco’s trading mobsters and meds for the courtroom as she takes the lead in a new Fox legal drama, per The Wrap.
Edie Falco is swapping mob wives and prescription pads for legal briefs in her next lead TV role. If you thought her General Ardmore in Avatar: Fire and Ash was a detour, she’s not done jumping genres yet – and this time, it’s a new Fox courtroom drama that’s got her name right in the title, more or less. The working title at the moment is Katie Greaves, and yes, that’s who Falco is playing: a former public defender from New Hampshire with plenty of baggage, including a tragedy in her past that pushed her away from law in the first place.
Falco’s character now lives the so-called normal life, looking after her two granddaughters with her husband, but you guessed it, she’s getting dragged back in. The job, the drama, the whole defending-people-who-nobody-else-wants-to-defend bit – it comes calling. There’s the usual legal-wrangling angle, but the core of it, according to the studio blurb, is that ‘each case tests Katie’s instincts, wit, and deeply held belief that everyone deserves a second chance … and someone to fight for them.’ (Yes, it’s one of those ‘save-the-world-one-defendant-at-a-time’ setups.)
This marks Edie Falco's next major series lead after her stint as General Ardmore in the Avatar sequel and its spinoff, making it her highest-profile network role since Nurse Jackie.
The Team Behind It
Running the show is Sharr White, serving as both executive producer and showrunner. If you keep track of industry power-players, Ridley Scott’s outfit Scott Free Productions is also involved, hinting at a bit more ambition than your bog-standard procedural. As for Fox, they’re evidently doubling down on ‘case-of-the-week but make it prestige’ as their post-cable strategy.
Falco's Career (if you need a refresher)
If you’ve somehow missed The Sopranos (are you alright?) or Nurse Jackie, those are Falco’s calling card serials – Carmela Soprano on the first and the title role in the latter. Between these, she’s pretty much cleaned up at every major TV awards night: four Emmys, two Golden Globes, five SAG-Astra wins, all told. She’s not shy about mixing it up either – parts in OZ, Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Brothers, Impeachment: American Crime Story, Bupkis, Tommy. Most recently (well, 2025), she showed up in Mayor of Kingstown Season 4, which incidentally got picked up for another run.

On the other side of the aisle (cinema rather than telly), she’s notched up credits in I’ll Be Right There, The Comedian, Landline, Megan Leavey, and The Mother, alongside her time in the Avatar movies for James Cameron and co.
