Don’t Breathe 3 is officially happening — and, in a move fans will cheer, the original duo are returning.
Time to stop holding your breath (sorry, had to): Don't Breathe 3 is actually happening. After what felt like years of radio silence, the franchise has just been dragged back into the daylight, and in proper horror sequel fashion, it's got a few surprise moves up its sleeve.
At the 10th anniversary screening of the original "Don't Breathe" at Beyond Fest, the creative team officially revealed that a third film is in the works, with the core cast reunited.
The Announcement (And Who's Back)
The big reveal happened at Beyond Fest on a Saturday night, with the original 2016 film getting a special screening at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. They got the whole gang together for it: director Fede Álvarez, his long-time collaborator Rodo Sayagues, Jane Levy, Stephen Lang, and even Dylan Minnette turned up for the panel. The nostalgia was laid on thick, then they dropped the real bomb: don't count this saga out just yet.

Bit of context: Álvarez and Levy have teamed up before—first for that gnarly Evil Dead reboot in 2013, where Levy fought off both drug withdrawal and literal demons. To this day, plenty of fans reckon her performance as Mia was the best thing about that whole Evil Dead relaunch—no easy feat given how divisive that movie was with hardcore fans.
They followed that up with Don't Breathe in 2016. If you missed it, that one took three small-time thieves, shoved them into the lair of Lang's Blind Man, then let chaos unfold. It landed like a sledgehammer at the summer box office: over $26 million on opening weekend in the US alone, and $157 million from a small $10 million budget. Sequel came along in 2021, focused more on the Blind Man raising a kid (played by Madelyn Grace) while trying not to get killed by various people from his past.

Details about Don't Breathe 3 are under lock and key—no plot points or script teases yet, not even a vague release date. But Levy being back heavily suggests we're getting a proper rematch between Rocky and the Blind Man, presumably to tie off the very unfinished business the series left hanging. Nobody's saying how or why Rocky is back in this mess, but it's a fair bet it'll get messy fast. Worth noting for horror completists: despite the franchise's big tonal shift in the last round, the creative heart (Álvarez and Levy) is clearly still beating behind the scenes.
