Mayor of Kingstown season 5 is expected to debut in early 2027
After a hush since wrapping production, a new cast update hints Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown could be back on our screens soon.
If you blinked lately, you might have missed that Mayor of Kingstown is still very much around, despite Taylor Sheridan's ever-growing pile of projects. With Yellowstone monopolising headlines, new series Landman and The Madison chasing big ratings, and Tulsa King back in the mix for its fourth go, Mayor of Kingstown has been shuffled to the end of the queue—not entirely fair for a show that helped kick off Sheridan's streaming-centric empire in the first place.
Final stretch for Kingstown
For those in need of a refresher: Mayor of Kingstown started before most of Sheridan’s TV universe, launching as a Paramount+ original built around Jeremy Renner's Mike McLusky. The series is set in a gloomy Michigan town basically running on seven massive prisons and all the dodgy arrangements that come with them. It's never pulled in the avalanche of viewers Yellowstone managed, but it's built a steady following—enough for Paramount+ to keep it on until now. Back in January, they confirmed season five would be the last.
The final batch, filmed in Pittsburgh over the summer, disappeared off the radar for a bit—no premiere date, no real chatter, even as the first four seasons got a surprise boost after landing on Netflix this October. Now we've finally heard when to expect the end, and—here's the odd bit—it wasn't from the usual press release or industry leak. Instead, actor Yani Gellman (you probably know him if you watched Pretty Little Liars or The Young and the Restless) casually announced on Instagram that he’s joined the Mayor of Kingstown season 5 cast—oh, and that it'll apparently drop in early 2027. Cheers for that, Yani. In his post, he made a point of thanking the creators, Hugh Dillon and Taylor Sheridan, and encouraged people to catch up on the back catalogue.
Mayor of Kingstown season 5 is expected to debut in early 2027—according to new cast member Yani Gellman's Instagram announcement.
Given that Tulsa King is running through December, and spin-off Marshals will take over in the new year, Kingstown was never likely to muscle onto this autumn’s calendar. Plus, the show’s basically allergic to regular scheduling anyway, with past seasons premiering in November, January, June, and October. A winter send-off fits the pattern—joyously unpredictable right to the end. The shortened final season will be eight episodes (the usual order was ten) and was confirmed almost immediately after season four wrapped up, just a week between the two announcements in January.
Late surge in popularity
Here’s the twist: just as Paramount+ decided to pull the plug, the show's popularity might be peaking. Licensing the first four series to Netflix in October brought in a fresh load of viewers who probably never bothered with a Paramount+ trial, and season 4 drew some of the most positive fan response to date. There’s an argument to be made that it’s ending when it’s never been buzzier.
For what it’s worth, Sheridan has been reminiscing about the show himself recently, telling Town & Country magazine that Mike’s story is "pretty autobiographical" for him—referring to his own years feeling boxed in by Los Angeles. So an early 2027 premiere, once Tulsa King gets its curtain call, gives Mayor of Kingstown something most streaming series usually miss: a tidy, planned finish. If you’re catching up, the first four seasons are streaming on Paramount+ and Netflix now.
