That Avengers: Doomsday vs. Dune: Part Three debate just took a left turn — and not for the reasons you think.

If you thought the only rivalry brewing over Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three was between cinema chains and fans, think again – now pizza brands have decided to wade in. Yes, as if release day chaos wasn’t enough, the official Domino's UK account has gone and chucked their own dough into the debate, and Marvel fans are not having it.

Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are both set for release on 18 December 2026.

This all started when Domino's UK hopped on X (that’s Twitter to those still resisting Elon’s rebrand) and posted a pretty direct shot: 'Dune > Doomsday.' Not exactly subtle, and the timing’s no coincidence – both films are currently locked in for the same mid-December launch.

The replies: Sauce, cheese, salt

The backlash was immediate, and frankly, pretty creative for social media standards. Marvel fans didn’t just defend their favourite film; they dragged the pizza itself. The go-to response was a variation on 'Pizza Hut > Domino's' from half the replies, starting with @HokiZoltan666 and echoed by @sahiiltagore and @MyGJesusYT, who threw in a 'Booooooooo Pizza Hut > Domino’s' for good measure. That joke quickly started looping as a sort of running gag under the original post. Basically, pizza wars broke out right under film wars, and most of it was surprisingly civil by internet standards.

Some took a more direct approach, telling Domino’s where to stick their opinions. @MediaMobHQ and @heref0rNTR both told them to 'Stick to the pizza,' while @OttosTrueLove didn’t mince words: 'your pizza isn’t good enough to be saying sh*t like this lmfao.' If you’re thinking “bit harsh,” you’re not alone – but this is what happens when brands try to banter online.

Bigger than just pizza?

Others were more passionate about the films than the food. @Osahoo123 complained, 'You want me to hate you.. it worked, buddy.' Meanwhile, @fizz_nandamuri took a swing for Marvel’s honour, joking that even just one day of Avengers: Doomsday box office in North America will trounce three days of Dune 3’s worldwide haul. Whether that’s wishful thinking or a plausible prediction, who knows—no official numbers exist yet, obviously.

This all feeds into what fans are now calling Dunesday – the December 18th showdown between Warner Bros. and Disney’s two sci-fi blockbusters. There’s a new wrinkle this year, too: Dune: Part Three has locked down a three-week exclusive run in all North American IMAX screens. Marvel is left out in the cold in that region (no IMAX for Doomsday in the US/Canada during those weeks), although international fans, especially in China, might still get Avengers: Doomsday on IMAX, depending on the market.

  • Both films open on 18 December (yes, same day).
  • Dune: Part Three gets a 3-week IMAX exclusive in the US and Canada.
  • Marvel fans, meanwhile, have to look overseas for Doomsday IMAX showings.
  • Pizzas are still being compared, for reasons that now defy logic.

So, thanks to a single tweet, what began as a blockbuster box office battle ended up dragging in the pizza giants and their own set of loyalists. The actual merits of either film probably won’t be settled in a pizza thread, but it’s 2026, and stranger things have trended.
