DC's animated Batman and Robin film has lost its June 2028 date. The Call of Duty movie is sitting on it.
Dynamic Duo now opens on 22 September 2028, right as schools go back. Warner also has the unfinished Paramount merger to think about.
Here we go again. Another year, another shuffling of DC release dates, but this one’s a bit of a strategic play. Warner Bros. has decided to postpone the arrival of its upcoming DC Studios animated film, Dynamic Duo. If you were planning to mark your calendars for 30th June 2028, perhaps don’t bother – it’s been knocked back nearly three months to 22nd September.
Dynamic Duo will now hit cinemas on 22 September 2028, instead of the original 30 June slot.
So, what’s with the delay? From what’s been dug up, the folks handling Warner Bros. distribution reckon that late September is the sweet spot for a bit of animated superhero action – right as kids are trudging back to school and, realistically, people are desperate for something other than homework. They’re targeting everyone from the youngest school kids up through teens and university crowd, so it’s more of a family play than anything else.
The competition factor
There’s a bit of gamesmanship going on too. Paramount’s Call of Duty movie is still hovering over the 30th June slot that Dynamic Duo was meant to have. Warner’s clearly doesn’t fancy going head-to-head with that, especially with both studios on edge thanks to the as-yet-unfinished merger business between Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures. Moving Dynamic Duo to a less crowded September means one less headache – and maybe a clearer run at the box office for everyone involved.
Beyond that, there’s not much official word on what’s actually happening inside the movie, or indeed who’s making it, but you can bet the scheduling chess match will keep going until that merger dust finally settles.
