Robert Pattinson says The Batman Part II takes a 'real left turn' — with Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan along for it
Matt Reeves is directing again from a script with Mattson Tomlin. The villain is still unannounced.
Robert Pattinson is back in the cowl for The Batman Part II, and apparently, things are about to get a bit weird. Or, at the very least, unexpected. If you thought the first film already took Batman down some side roads we hadn't seen before, Pattinson is making it clear that the sequel is going to steer the whole thing well off the motorway.
Talking to Collider at a recent press event, Pattinson teased, 'It's so ambitious.'
That 'ambitious' bit isn't just marketing fluff, either. According to Pattinson, if you were expecting 'The Batman 2' to churn out more of the same moodiness and detective-work from the first round, you might want to lower your expectations. He pointed out that the original was already 'a different take on a Batman movie', but the follow-up will go even further off-book. Not that he gave away exactly what that means - the man is tight-lipped about spoilers. All we know is he's excited to see how Reeves and co. pull it off.
So, what do we actually know for certain? Well, not much. Matt Reeves is on directing duty again, and he’s co-writing the script with Mattson Tomlin. Pattinson of course returns as Bruce Wayne, carrying on from where the 2022 film left off. This is still very much set in Reeves’s own cordoned-off Batman universe – which means you won’t see James Gunn’s soon-to-arrive DCU Batman anything to do with this storyline. That other version is on the horizon under the title 'The Brave and the Bold', but that’s a whole different Batcave.
The Batman Part II is keeping crucial story details and villain reveals firmly under wraps for now.
The Aftermath of Gotham
Quick refresher: Reeves's first film had Bruce deep in year two of Batmanning, unpicking a gruesome Riddler crime spree, and stumbling over just about every rotten pillar in Gotham’s political and criminal circles. In the end, his whole sense of being Batman was shaken up. Reports (such as they are) suggest the sequel will lean into what comes after all that chaos and self-doubt, though who the next major villain is remains completely hush-hush. No sign yet if Riddler, Joker, or anyone else from Arkham is actually set to return.

Who Else Is On Board?
The supporting cast list is, frankly, quite a line-up. Colin Farrell is back as Penguin, plus you’ve got Jeffrey Wright (Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred), with Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Bryan Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch all on the call sheet. Not the sort of collection you get together for your average superhero sequel – that’s proper star power, and it’s anyone’s guess who’s playing who from that lot.
