Date set: Danny Boyle’s new historical thriller gets a Netflix date
A renowned director-producer is teaming with Netflix on a movie drawn from a thrilling real-life story — and you’ll definitely know the name behind it.
Not every day you get director Danny Boyle taking on Rupert Murdoch, but here we are. Variety has nailed down the lineup for Boyle's next film, Ink, and it's coming to cinemas (the proper kind, not your living room) a bit before Christmas 2026—specifically, 11 December 2026.
Ink lands in cinemas on 11 December 2026, with Netflix streaming following on 8 January 2027.
Boyle's latest doesn't hang around long before heading to Netflix, either. If you miss it on the big screen, it's dropping to the streaming service in the US and Latin America on 8 January 2027. Why almost a month later? No clue, but that seems to be the new normal with these hybrid releases.
First Look and Cast
Variety also chucked out a fresh image to tempt us, and the casting here is honestly inspired. Guy Pearce is giving it his best Murdoch (yes, that Rupert Murdoch), and for a shot of Fleet Street grit, Jack O'Connell steps in as Larry Lamb, a big player on the '70s-80s tabloid scene.
- Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch, legendary (and, let's be honest, pretty controversial) media tycoon.
- Jack O'Connell as Larry Lamb, the sharp-tongued editor who's right in the thick of it.
No word yet on the rest of the cast or the wider plot, but with Boyle at the helm and these two leads, it's not exactly going unnoticed. That's all Variety's let slip for now, but it's safe to say more details won't be far off.
