Daredevil Star Whose Character Was Killed Off Teases Born Again Season 3 Return
Daredevil: Born Again just delivered a brutal death, but the coffin might not be closed. Ayelet Zurer is hinting Vanessa’s story isn’t over yet, teasing a possible return after the season’s shocker.
Sometimes a superhero show drops a twist that everyone sees coming and still ends up floored. That's pretty much what happened with Daredevil: Born Again this season, when the writers handed Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) a truly brutal loss: the onscreen death of his wife Vanessa. But if you've spent any time with Marvel comics or listen to how actors talk, you know it's rarely curtains for good.
So... Is Vanessa Really Gone?
Ayelet Zurer, who plays Vanessa Fisk, is out doing interviews again—kind of unusual after your character checks out on a show, unless there's more to the story. She dropped by Comic Book Movie to address the big question: Is Vanessa really gone for good?
Her answer? Honestly, it sounds like even she doesn't know for sure, but the door might still be open:
If I were a writer, I'd say yes [to a return]. But it really depends on where the story goes from here.
In other words: Classic Marvel non-answer, but keep your theories cooking.
Death (Kind of) Isn't the End in Marvel-Land
Marvel comics are notorious for bringing folks back—resurrections, alternate realities, variant versions, you name it. So even though Born Again has gone for a grittier, more grounded vibe, you can't rule out a comeback for Vanessa—even if it's not the straightforward kind.
Even with Vanessa 'gone', her absence clearly isn't the end of her influence. Zurer hinted that what happens to Fisk in the fallout is going to be 'deeply affected' by losing her. Plus, her presence still hovers over everything, shaping the drama for other characters. So, nobody's exactly moving on just yet.
Shooting That Final Scene: Heavy Stuff
Zurer also opened up about filming Vanessa's sendoff. Apparently what started as an action-heavy sequence quickly turned into something a lot more emotional:
Once we got to the part where she's lying down, and he collapses beside her, knowing what was coming in the next episode, it became very emotional.
She called the whole process intense and, honestly, kind of heartbreaking—especially since 'the end' in superhero TV usually means a break…not retirement.
So, What's Next?
- Vanessa is technically dead (for now).
- Zurer doesn't rule out a return—if the writers want it, it can happen. Comics logic supports it.
- The fallout from her death is going to hit Fisk—and everybody else—hard for the rest of the season.
- Even from the grave, Vanessa's part in the story isn't over (and honestly, in Marvel, probably never is).
With only a few episodes left this season, things are headed down a darker path, and if history is any indication, don't get too comfortable. Dead isn't always dead, especially if fans (and actors) keep buzzing.
