Criminal Record EP Teases Season 3 Fallout After Season 2’s Game-Changing Death
Criminal Record might not be renewed yet, but the team’s already sketching out season 3. Executive producer Elaine Collins says plans are underway and that the season 2 shock death will reshape June Lenker’s next chapter.
If you were left gawping at the end of Criminal Record series two, you’re not alone—turns out, the people making it are also thinking, 'Now what?' There’s no official green light for a third season yet, but the brains behind the show aren’t just sitting around waiting for someone at Apple to find their cheque book.
Series 3? Maybe, Maybe Not Yet
Let’s just get this straight: Criminal Record hasn’t been renewed for season three. No shiny Apple TV+ press release, nothing from on high. The executive producer Elaine Collins made that pretty clear in a chat with TV Insider. Her words:
'It is just up to Apple. It's not up to me. But we definitely have stories in mind for it. We certainly have something in mind for a third season should they want to make another one.'
Translation: If Apple coughs up, they’re ready to go.
What Would Change?
The big talking point is how the next series—if it happens—wouldn’t just hit repeat on the trust issues between June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty. Collins laid it out: Hegarty’s always going to be Hegarty, and June’s never magically going to forgive and forget. But don’t expect them to spend every episode side-eyeing each other and grumbling about trust. Basically, she’s promising some forward motion on that front.
She also flagged up that Hegarty’s private life is an area she’d like to pull the curtain back on. And then there’s June, who by the looks of it is heading into post-Leo territory (for those who know, you know).
So, What Might Season 3 Actually Look Like?
- Don't expect June and Hegarty to magically become mates—but the tense stalemate is done.
- The days of constant accidental run-ins could be over; Collins says the two would 'move forward together more', although, in her words, she’d be 'throwing some tacks onto the road'. Expect friction, but fresh.
- We could dig into Hegarty’s off-duty life for the first time. No details yet, just that it’s on the producers’ radar.
- Big question marks over June: how she copes with what happened to Leo, and what version of her shows up next.
Everything hinges on Apple giving the nod. For now, it’s all on ice, but if series three drops, it shouldn’t just be business as usual for Lenker and Hegarty.
