If you’ve been wondering whether the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen turns up in Avengers: Secret Wars, Charlie Cox has finally given a straight answer at MCM Comic Con.

Here we go again: Charlie Cox has finally put the brakes on those relentless whispers about Daredevil suiting up alongside the Avengers in Marvel’s upcoming Secret Wars. If you’ve been following the rumour mill (and let’s face it, it’s been turning non-stop), you’ll know this is exactly the sort of fan-theory that refuses to die. Cox gave what seemed like a very plain answer while taking fan questions at MCM Comic Con – but as ever, the background makes it a bit more entertaining than the standard ‘no comment’ Marvel fare.

‘Not a liar’ this time

A fan in the crowd asked the obvious: is Daredevil getting the Avengers invite for Secret Wars? Here’s how Cox handled it, straight from the con floor:

No, I’m not going to be in it, no.

He then followed up with a half-cheeky, half-exasperated apology, and made a point of telling the audience:

And you should believe me now. I’m not a liar

There’s a bit of history behind that comment. Basically, just before Spider-Man: Brand New Day hit cinemas, fans were all but convinced that Cox’s Matt Murdock would stick his head in, based on his MCU return in No Way Home and links to Jon Bernthal’s Punisher (since Bernthal was confirmed for the film). As we all know now, it was wishful thinking—Murdock never showed. Regardless, people kept pestering Cox with questions, so his response this time has a certain 'please don’t start this again' energy to it.

Daredevil’s current Marvel standing

The timing here is interesting. Cox first pulled on the red mask over a decade ago for Netflix’s Marvel series, then got benched when the show was cancelled and all of Marvel TV went up in smoke. The character was more or less resurrected for MCU canon courtesy of No Way Home and, soon after, with his own TV comeback in Born Again. Unsurprisingly, fans started joining the dots, hoping for a full Avengers seat for Daredevil—the ‘street level’ route to the big leagues.

Daredevil’s next run lands with Born Again Season 3, possibly early 2027.

If you were hoping to see Matt Murdock in the Secret Wars team shot, that’s not happening. Instead, his story in Born Again is getting even murkier: in the upcoming third season, Murdock is locked up after publicly outing his identity (so, less time for heroics, more time behind bars). Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk steps up his campaign of chaos, with new additions: Luke Cage, Elektra, and Iron Fist all confirmed to join the action. So, at least if you’re a Marvel TV devotee, you’ll have plenty to go on.

The wider Marvel chessboard

There’s another wrinkle worth noting: just because Cox is out for Secret Wars, that doesn’t mean the wider Avengers puzzle is set in stone. Kevin Feige has gone on record saying the final line-up for Avengers: Doomsday (scheduled to land December 2026) hasn’t been disclosed. Chris Evans and Florence Pugh are attached so far, but as for Secret Wars specifically, it doesn’t even start filming until mid-2026—so no surprises if Marvel keeps the cards close to their chest for as long as possible.
