A Slow Horses star has muscled into pole position for the 007 reboot — and is now reportedly “strongly considered.”

Well, here we go again. The drawn-out James Bond casting circus has lurched back into the spotlight, and if you feel like we’ve been waiting for the next 007 longer than it takes Bond himself to defuse a nuclear bomb, you’re not wrong. Still, after years of speculation, things are suddenly moving (a bit). Blame Amazon, who recently teased that we’ll finally get “the name” before 2026’s out, and now everyone from bookies to bored pub chatters is locked into prediction mode.

Jack Lowden's odds to become the next Bond have improved considerably as talk of casting has picked up pace.

The Usual Suspects — And a New Lead

The usual suspects—Callum Turner (the chap from Fantastic Beasts and One Night Only) and Henry Cavill (yes, Superman himself)—are both still very much in the race, according to everyone who takes money on such things. But, in a twist that would make a Bond screenwriter proud, Jack Lowden is now the name being chucked around the most. If you’ve watched Slow Horses, you’ll know his spy credentials aren’t half bad, at least on screen.

Enter Richard Osman — with Gossip

Where did this sudden Lowden surge come from? Enter Richard Osman—presenter, author, and generally in-the-know type—who decided to lob petrol onto the fire during The Rest Is Entertainment podcast he co-hosts with Marina Hyde. Osman’s got form as a Bond gossiper, but this time, he claimed someone tipped him off in no uncertain terms about who’s getting the tux:

Here's what Osman actually told his podcast listeners: 'Someone told me for definite who the new Bond is the other day.' Though, true to form, he did admit: 'that’s happened before.' He wasn't exactly planting the Union Jack on Lowden’s front lawn either—Osman hedged, clarifying that, 'It is definitively not a "he’s definitely got it" thing. He is definitely being strongly considered.'

From there, Osman riffed on how he reckons Lowden stacks up in the role, dropping the inevitable Daniel Craig comparison. In his words, Lowden's got the right sort of energy—though, again, this is the business end of speculation we’re in.

  • Lowden: Shot up in the bookies’ estimation off the back of Osman’s remarks.
  • Turner and Cavill: Both still regarded as front-runners (for now).
  • Amazon: Promising an announcement before the end of the year, so expect more wild guesses until then.

Yes, it’s still all rumour and whispers, but now with just enough fresh smoke to get Bond fans combing through every public appearance and offhand remark for clues.
