Bradley Cooper And Margot Robbie Are Danny Ocean's Parents In Ocean's Eleven Prequel — And Cooper Is Writing And Directing
Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper are heading back to the vault, playing Danny Ocean’s parents in an Ocean’s Eleven prequel — with Cooper writing, directing, and co-starring.
Well, the Ocean's franchise just keeps refusing to fade quietly into the night. After rumors and a little bit of director musical chairs, it turns out Bradley Cooper is officially stepping in to write, direct, and star in Margot Robbie's upcoming prequel for Warner Bros. – and that means he's basically doing everything but selling the popcorn.
Cooper All-In on 'Ocean's' Prequel
Originally, director Lee Isaac Chung was attached, but he and Warner Bros. split up over what everyone likes to call 'creative differences.' In Hollywood speak, that's less nuclear than it sounds – Warner's statement was all warm and fuzzy, praising Chung for his vision and leaving things open for future team-ups. Nothing too dramatic, at least by industry standards.
After a few weeks of 'will he, won't he,' The Hollywood Reporter broke the actual news: Bradley Cooper is locked in as the creative force on this one – writing, directing, starring, and even producing (alongside Robbie's own LuckyChap). Margot Robbie herself showed up at CinemaCon via video to confirm it all to a room full of insiders, laying out the real angle for the movie:
'Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents. You’ll see them in all their prime in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.'
So yep, we're not only getting a Danny Ocean origin story, but apparently we're meeting his parents – in their glory days, pulling off what sounds like a very high-gloss, European caper at Monaco. And honestly, if any franchise leans into retro heist glamour, it's Ocean's.
For the record, there's no official title yet, but Warner Bros. has planted its flag with a June 25, 2027 release date. This is going to be a while, but hey, at least they're not pretending it's coming next year.
Another Sequel: Ocean’s 14 Also on Deck
Not content to just explore Ocean family history, Warner Bros. is also quietly spinning up yet another sequel – Ocean's 14, aiming to bring back the classic crew. George Clooney already teased this last year, saying they’ve actually got a 'really good script' and the plans are pretty far along. No plot details, but Clooney did say, ‘the idea is kind of Going in Style’ – a nod to that old 1979 heist comedy where a bunch of retired guys knock over a bank. So, don’t be surprised if they're leaning into the 'old pro out for one last score' vibe.
According to Clooney, the studio has already green-lit the budget. The only hurdle? Lining up the schedules for the still-very-in-demand stars. If things don’t go sideways, Clooney hinted they could be shooting within the year.
What to Expect
- Prequel: Bradley Cooper starring and running the show, with Margot Robbie, as Danny Ocean's parents in early-‘60s Monaco.
- Release Date: Set for June 25, 2027 (so yeah, you've got time).
- Sequel: Ocean’s 14 in active development; Clooney, Pitt, and more original cast aimed to return for a 'one last big heist' type story. Studio likes the script, just waiting on schedules to align.
So, whether you're here for retro-glam robberies or just hoping for more George Clooney smirks, the Ocean's saga is most definitely not done yet. And apparently, neither is Bradley Cooper. Grab your blueprints – we’ll be planning this one for a while.
