Beast in X-Men reboot? Charles Melton spells out where he stands
After relentless X-Men chatter, Beef’s Charles Melton has finally spoken up — and he’s made his feelings on playing Beast in the reboot very plain.
If you’ve spent any time on film Twitter lately, you’ll know the Marvel rumour mill's in overdrive with talk about Charles Melton potentially joining the new X-Men line-up – specifically, as Beast. Up till now, Melton’s kept schtum about it all. But with his Emmy buzz from Beef (series two, no less), the man’s finally had a word about those wild casting theories – and yes, he found it all pretty amusing.
Rumours, Googling, and Marvel Chatter
So Melton’s been out doing the press rounds for his latest go as Isaac in Beef (16 Emmy nominations isn’t nothing), and The Playlist couldn’t resist pressing him on the Marvel business. He swears he does try to tune out all the online noise. (He admits he checks up on what people are saying, just... not quite as obsessively as before.)
I try to stay away from the fodder as much as I can. So I’ve limited myself to Googling myself maybe 20 times a day instead of 50.
The online speculation’s kicked up a notch since word got out that Lee Sung Jin (who ran Beef) and Jake Schreier (the series’ director) are also on board for Marvel’s next X-Men entry. Naturally, Marvel fans have run wild with theories about Melton joining the team – and with D23 just round the corner, people are half-expecting a major cast reveal out of Anaheim.
Not Confirming—But Definitely Not Ruling Out
For clarity: Melton didn’t confirm a thing about signing on to any mutant business. What he did say (with a bit of understatement) is that when people are talking about you for high-profile roles, 'it’s exciting', especially if it could mean re-teaming with the Beef creatives.
Whenever people are talking about you in a very maybe positive, hopeful way, I think it’s exciting.
He also made it clear he’d be chuffed to work with Lee Sung Jin and Schreier again – which, yes, would be 'amazing', as he put it. He’s genuinely bullish on what they’re capable of. If nothing else, the mutual admiration’s real, even if nobody will just say 'Yes, I’m playing Beast'.
- Melton is currently up for two Emmys – Outstanding Supporting Actor and as an executive producer, both for Beef season 2.
- That brings his drama credentials nicely full circle, after his breakout in May December raised his industry stock well beyond his Riverdale years.
- The X-Men reboot with Schreier and Lee Sung Jin attached remains officially un-cast, with all eyes now on potential announcements at D23 in Anaheim.
May December (the Todd Haynes one, not the cheap knock-off) landed three years ago, but it’s still helping Melton shake off the 'teen TV' label. And with Marvel on the hunt for their new mutants, the timing of this casting swirl is... let’s just say, highly convenient.
