Avengers: Doomsday still has secret cast members, its director says
Think Marvel’s massive roster reveal was the lot — director Anthony Russo says the cast isn’t complete, with more announcements still to come.
So, we thought we had a good handle on Avengers: Doomsday – or at least, the massive traffic jam of a cast list Marvel's already revealed. Well, turns out we're nowhere near seeing the full line-up. The Russo brothers – those two, back for another round – just tossed a pretty meaty teaser during a Q&A to let us know: this ensemble is even bigger than anyone realised.
The Avengers: Doomsday cast doesn't stop here – plenty more names haven't been announced yet.
Russo Update: Not Done Yet
The news came straight from Anthony Russo – minus Joe, as he was apparently sidelined with an illness and missed the post-Endgame Encore Q&A session. Anthony, doing the PR rounds solo, talked up just how sprawling the cast list is for this next Avengers outing. And he made a point of flagging that while a heap of big names are out in the open, others are still under wraps. This is Marvel, so nothing new there, but the sheer scale he's hinting at is a bit wild, even for this lot.
He also gave a nod to post-production still being an almighty slog, saying he and Joe basically won’t let go until the studio practically wrestles the film away from them.
As Anthony Russo put it during the discussion about working on Doomsday: "The cast is so large, and we've announced some of the cast, and we haven't announced some of the cast."
Who's In So Far?
Here’s what Marvel’s actually told us, officially, about who's popped up in Avengers: Doomsday:
- Robert Downey Jr. – not back as Iron Man, but instead playing Victor von Doom (so, friendly face, very unfriendly role).
- Chris Hemsworth – Thor returns, hammer and all.
- Chris Evans – once again picking up the shield as Steve Rogers.
- Fantastic Four – this new lot includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
- Thunderbolts – Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen and Lewis Pullman are all in the mix.
- Regulars from other Marvel corners: Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Tenoch Huerta.
- Some proper nostalgia with the Fox-era X-Men: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, and yes, Channing Tatum.
- Tom Hiddleston is back (again) as Loki and Hayley Atwell returns as Peggy Carter.
A few obvious heavy hitters – Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – are still conspicuously absent from the official roster, just in case you thought this was already getting a bit crowded.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently aiming for UK cinemas on 18 December 2026.
