Avengers: Doomsday beats Deadpool & Wolverine two-to-one in first-day ticket presales
Avengers: Doomsday has stormed out of the blocks in first-day ticket sales — and it’s brought a trailer record along for the ride.
It finally happened: Marvel Studios dropped the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday yesterday and—predictably—everyone lost their minds. The trailer landed the same day that tickets went on sale, and honestly, the numbers are pretty staggering already. If you thought the excitement was overblown, wait till you see these sales.
The trailer clocked a ridiculous 503 million views in 24 hours.
Early numbers, big surprise So, for anyone keeping score, Doomsday racked up $16.5 million in advance ticket sales on the very first day. That’s not just big—it’s double what Deadpool & Wolverine managed on its opening pre-sale back in 2024, and that film went on to clear over $1.3 billion worldwide.
Here’s where it gets even more ridiculous: Deadpool & Wolverine tickets were available across every format and in every cinema from the get-go. In comparison, Doomsday’s early tickets were only available in premium formats and limited to just 1,000 cinemas in the US.
If those seats were going this fast with that kind of handicap, brace yourself when they open bookings for the usual 4,000+ screens across North America. Studio insiders are already pointing out that showings on 17 and 18 December (premium screens only, mind) are heading towards sold-out status, so expect more screenings to pop up for Christmas week and probably well into the New Year.
Trailer numbers and the race for records The new Doomsday trailer didn’t quite nab the all-time movie trailer record, but it’s nothing to sniff at either. With 503 million views in its first 24 hours, it actually breaks Disney’s internal record, trouncing the last Marvel big hitter (that was the Deadpool & Wolverine Super Bowl spot, which 'only' managed 365 million views if you count TV).
For context, the all-time crown still goes to Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which had a frankly ludicrous 719 million views in its first day.
Still, with numbers like these, Marvel isn’t likely to lose much sleep. San Diego Comic-Con: all eyes on Marvel Another thing sure to rile up the fandom—Marvel’s back in a big way at San Diego Comic-Con this year. There’s a blockbuster Hall H panel set for 25 July, 5:30–6:30 pm PT, and it’s more or less guaranteed Doomsday will be the centrepiece. Presumably, there’ll be fresh clips or at least some as-yet-unseen cast moments, so expect all eyes on any surprise announcements or new footage.
Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on 18 December. The hype machine’s already in overdrive.
