Jake Sully unites Pandora’s clans for a fierce stand against the RDA and Ash People, leading to a high-stakes battle, shifting alliances, and uncertain futures for key characters.

The final act of Avatar: Fire and Ash opens with Jake Sully’s escape from RDA imprisonment, aided by Neytiri, Spider, and Dr Ian Garvin. Once free, Jake returns to the Metkayina, determined to unite Pandora’s disparate clans in resistance. The threat is grave: the RDA, alongside Scoresby, are intent on hunting the Tulkun for Amrita, a rare substance extracted from the whale-like creatures, prized by humans for its life-extending properties. Payakan, previously cast out by the Tulkun for his violent past, manages—thanks to Lo’ak’s support—to persuade the matriarchs that fighting back is their only hope. The brutal blinding of Payakan’s last surviving relative by the RDA further galvanises the Tulkun to join the cause.

With the clans rallied, Jake reclaims his bond with the great Toruk, the striking orange bird, resuming his role as Toruk Makto. The Na’vi prepare to ambush the RDA and Scoresby as they approach, unaware that the Tulkun are ready to retaliate for the first time. The ensuing confrontation sees the Tulkun overturning boats and the Na’vi launching an aerial assault. However, the arrival of the Ash People shifts the momentum, putting Jake’s forces on the defensive. Quaritch, previously sidelined by General Ardmore, re-enters the fray, intent on his own vendetta—especially with his human son, Spider, still in Jake’s custody.

Desperation and Unlikely Allies

As the battle intensifies and hope wanes, Kiri makes a risky decision to connect her queue underwater. This is a dangerous move, given her epilepsy, as such connections trigger seizures. Spider, experiencing the connection for the first time, joins her, using the queue he fashioned after Kiri’s intervention allowed him to breathe Pandora’s air. Their efforts seem futile until Tuk, the youngest Sully, joins them. Together, they reach Eywa, who finally acknowledges their plea. It’s uncertain whether Eywa will intervene, but soon, a swarm of Tsyong—squid-like creatures encountered by Lo’ak earlier—descend upon the RDA, overwhelming the humans. Scoresby meets his end as Payakan’s wounded relative drags him into the depths.

Yet, the conflict is far from over. Varang seizes Tuk, prompting a desperate pursuit by the Sully family. Jake and Lo’ak intervene, and in a nod to Aliens, Kiri—portrayed by Sigourney Weaver—frightens Varang away from Neytiri. This leads to a final confrontation between Jake and Quaritch, who engage in a brutal fight within an anti-gravity chamber. Spider is caught in the chaos, nearly falling to his death, prompting both men to pause their struggle to save him. Jake offers Quaritch a hand, hoping for reconciliation, but Quaritch, unnerved by Neytiri’s arrival, chooses to throw himself into the flames below. His fate remains ambiguous, though it seems unlikely he’s truly gone.

Aftermath and Lingering Mysteries

In the aftermath, Spider uses his queue to visit the Tree of Souls, encountering the spirits of Dr Grace Augustine, Neteyam, and Ronal—who, despite dying in the final battle, is aided by Neytiri in delivering her child. Payakan is welcomed back from exile, his actions having redeemed him in the eyes of the Tulkun. The Sully family find a measure of peace, though the shadow of Quaritch’s possible survival hints at further turmoil should the saga continue.
