Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Biehn finally reunite — their first time together since The Terminator

If you’re old enough to remember the original Terminator, you probably never imagined you’d see Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Biehn on screen together again – four-plus decades after Arnie chased Biehn through 1980s Los Angeles in James Cameron’s sci-fi staple. But here we are in 2026, and the pair have just linked up for a brand new action film called The Kellys. Yes, really.

Meeting Again After 40 Years

Production is now underway on The Kellys, and Biehn couldn’t resist talking about the experience on his podcast, 'Just Foolin' About with Michael Biehn' (he does love a bit of a natter). Biehn admitted getting emotional about seeing Schwarzenegger after so long:

'Seeing Arnold again, working with Arnold again, has been absolutely amazing after 40 years. We didn’t really get a chance to work very much [on The Terminator]. We’ve worked together more on [The Kellys] than we did back then. I mean, he actually talks in this one, and he talks to me, and I talk to him.'

In other words, expect actual dialogue between the two this time, and not just the monosyllabic stuff and wild-eyed chases you remember. The two apparently made time for a proper catch-up session too, reminiscing about the old days, sharing life updates, and raising a glass to Bill Paxton, who worked with both of them back in the day. Bit of a tearjerker.

The Movie: A Family of Loose Cannon Coppers

So what exactly is The Kellys? Imagine this: you take the chaos of Dirty Harry, mash it up with the wisecracks and chaos of Beverly Hills Cop and the fists-through-a-wall energy of Die Hard, and you get pretty close. Biehn says it’s a high-octane action-comedy, and yes, there are more than a few tips of the hat to the punchiest ‘80s and ‘90s action classics.

• Plot: Jack Kelly (Liam Hemsworth), a down-on-his-luck New York cop, gets his world shattered when terrorists take his wife, Molly, hostage inside an old armory building. Forced to act, Jack has to throw his lot in with his own (highly dysfunctional) family members—who just so happen to be loose-cannon police officers themselves—to try and save her.
• Biehn’s Role: For a twist, Michael Biehn isn’t the scrappy rebel this time—he’s actually playing the boss, trying to manage Schwarzenegger’s wildman cop character. Apparently, there’s loads more interaction between the two than we ever saw in The Terminator.
• Tone: Think punchy, a little bit cheeky, and not afraid to send up some vintage genre clichés.

Who Else Is Turning Up?

The film’s cast list looks like one of those bingo cards you wish you’d made a few years ago, given the line-up. Schwarzenegger and Biehn are joined by:

Liam Hemsworth (presumably in full leading-man mode as Jack Kelly), Kelsey Asbille, Abby Elliott, and Geena Davis, who’d already been announced. Since then, they’ve piled on even more names: Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), Ron Funches (Harley Quinn), Roland Møller (Mutiny), Laz Alonso (The Boys), Basil Eidenbenz (The Witcher), and Dan Fogler (House of the Dragon).

Direction is coming from Brad Peyton (Rampage), and Tze Chun (Gotham) has written the script. Amazon MGM Studios is putting up the money and distribution muscle, so it’ll be global—expect to see it on Prime Video, wherever you are (they say more than 240 countries, which seems excessive but apparently everyone gets it).
