Spider-Man: Brand New Day just banked another Indian box office milestone, overtaking two enormous Hollywood hits — and the pair it’s leapfrogged aren’t exactly small fry.

India has just handed another jaw-dropping record to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and this one’s properly historic. In a market where Hollywood usually plays second fiddle to the local industry, our friendly neighbourhood wallcrawler has managed to leap over both Avatar: The Way of Water and Avengers: Endgame at the Indian box office. Yes, really.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially holds the top spot as the highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time in India.

Crushing Records, Indian Style

The numbers here are, frankly, a bit bonkers. Brand New Day has now pulled in a staggering $52.8 million from India alone, according to Variety. That nudges it well past Avatar: The Way of Water's previous record haul of $50.8 million in the country. The most recent weekend added another $10.6 million to the pile — not exactly pocket change for a film already this far into its run.

From the very first day, it was obvious that this film was different. The opening Thursday in India alone brought in INR 72.44 crore (about $7.6 million), which knocked Endgame's opening day crown right off its head. Almost one million people turned up to cinemas on that day. That’s quite an outing for Spidey, isn’t it?

Just How Big Is Big?

If you want scale, try this: at PVR Inox, one of India's largest cinema chains, the opening weekend managed sales of over INR 135 crore (roughly $14.1 million), with nearly three million tickets sold across their sites. On average, about 60% of seats were filled, so these weren’t dead showings padded by empty rows.

The total for the four-day extended opening weekend, as reported by Sony, stood at $35.4 million in India. The scope of the release was also staggering — 17,250 screens across the country, with the bulk of the cash coming from city audiences. Bengaluru topped the charts by a fair distance, making up 23% of big-city sales, with Hyderabad at 17%, Mumbai 15%, and Delhi 14%.

  • India box office: $52.8 million and counting
  • Opening day: INR 72.44 crore ($7.6 million), biggest ever for a Hollywood film
  • PVR Inox opening weekend: 3 million tickets sold, $14.1 million revenue
  • Extended opening (first 4 days): $35.4 million, across 17,250 screens
  • Biggest metros: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi

Global Totals and Release Info

This Indian surge has done wonders for the global tally. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now amassed $1.65 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. That splits up into $655 million domestic (presumably the US) and $1.01 billion from the international side of things. If you’re curious who’s behind this whole outing, it’s directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and it hit Indian screens on 31 July 2026.
