Amid Oscar buzz, Amanda Seyfried is boarding A24’s next comedy — and it’s who she’ll be sharing the set with that’ll raise an eyebrow.

Here we go then: Amanda Seyfried is lining up her next gig, and it’s for A24. That’s the same folks who keep winning indie film trophies and have become the go-to for the kind of “is this a comedy or are we all about to cry?” cinema you either adore or quietly pretend you get. Seyfried’s just come off a run that’s had everyone whispering about potential Oscars (again), thanks to The Testament of Ann Lee—apparently, she’s excellent. Toss in her part in You Can See Everything and her face is pretty unavoidable at the moment. Now, she’s been tapped for the cast of a new project called Martha and Muhammad.

Martha and Muhammad will be directed by Ramy Youssef, who’s also behind the script, with A24 footing the bill.

What We Know (So Far)

Details? Scarce. A24 is playing things close to the chest. Seyfried’s character hasn’t been revealed, no plot summary officially out there yet. All the trades can confirm: Ramy Youssef (you might know him from, well, Ramy) is not only directing but also writing the whole thing, and yes, he’s in it as well. Oh, and Sharon Stone is attached too—because apparently, why not just collect a bunch of Oscar nominees and see what happens?

But if you poke around, previous reports have let slip the broad strokes: the film is said to centre on a posh, widowed, white socialite in New York who ends up in a relationship with a considerably younger Muslim man. Sounds like it’ll dig into class, religion, immigration, and age differences. Not exactly your light Sunday afternoon fare, even if they’re pitching it as a comedy—it’s A24, after all.

Backing Youssef are producers Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein, Josh Safdie, Christopher Storer, and Tyson Bidner. If you recognise a couple of those names, you likely watch everything “elevated” on streaming. Again, this is very A24 in flavour. The company is fully financing, so expect their usual marketing voodoo when it finally lands.

Seyfried’s Recent Turns

No one can accuse Amanda Seyfried of sitting idle these days. She’s seen in You Can See Everything, a documentary currently in UK cinemas—for the trivia heads, she’s even playing herself in that one. And in a bit of inspired meta casting, she dons her old Elizabeth Holmes persona from The Dropout again, because apparently you can keep squeezing juice from that one for a while yet. Before this, she had a plum role opposite Sydney Sweeney and Brandon Sklenar in The Housemaid, as Nina Winchester.

Other recent and upcoming projects include The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd, Long Bright River, and, of course, that Oscar-buzzy The Testament of Ann Lee. If you’re an IMDb completist, Seyfried’s got at least four more things on the go: voice work on Steps and Ted: The Animated Series, plus Skinny Dip and Octet. For what it’s worth, she’s also chalked up executive producer credits lately, on The Housemaid’s Secret and Skinny Dip.

Seyfried is currently attached to at least four new projects outside Martha and Muhammad according to IMDb.
