Two Game of Thrones alums are reuniting for new roles in the next Alien chapter.

Well, here we are. Nearly half a century since Ridley Scott unleashed Alien on the world, Disney and FX have decided the next logical step is—why not—a streaming spinoff called Alien: Earth. If you were hoping for any sort of neat tie-in with the existing films, think again. This series lives in its own slightly bonkers alternate universe and is knowingly not considered official canon. Yes, that is the sort of thing that winds up some fans, but the showrunners are leaning into the madness.

Setting the Scene: Cyborgs, Synthetics, Hybrids… Oh My

The basic premise? Humanity, never quite satisfied with a normal lifespan, is dabbling with all forms of uncanny survival—think cyborgs sporting biomechatronic upgrades, full-on synthetics running around with artificial intelligence, and hybrids where scientists have managed to wedge someone’s consciousness into a not-so-human vessel. If that sounds like the kind of morality play you’d see at 2am on Channel 4, you’re not far off.

Things get properly sci-fi when the USCSS Maginot—a deep-space research ship, naturally—crashes straight back to Earth. Enter Wendy, a young hybrid and self-styled Peter Pan figure fronting a ragtag group called the 'Lost Boys'. She and a team of soldiers swiftly discover the planet’s far from welcoming. Typical.

Back for More… in 2026

After a solid enough showing, Alien: Earth was renewed for a second series. Production kicked off again in June 2026, though—true to form—nobody’s giving away any input on what exactly happens next. They’re keeping the whole thing under lock and key, which is either a sign of confidence or a last-minute rewrite (pick your poison).

The Core Cast, and a Few Surprises

  • Sydney Chandler as Wendy, the first hybrid—fearless leader of the Lost Boys
  • Alex Lawther plays Joe Hermit, Wendy’s actual human brother and a medic employed by the mysterious Prodigy Corporation’s security division
  • Also popping up: Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Essie Davis (The Matrix Revolutions), and Babou Ceesay (Into the Badlands)
  • Newly joining in Series 2: Jerome Flynn (Black Mirror, John Wick 3, Ripper Street), Tracey Ullman (Robin Hood: Men in Tights), and Sam Spruell (Fargo)

Flynn and Dinklage: A Reunion Years in the Making

Here’s the twist that’ll have Game of Thrones fans twitching with curiosity: Jerome Flynn is joining in Series 2, and so is Peter Dinklage—his casting was announced back in April. For eight years, Dinklage’s Tyrion Lannister (68 episodes, if you’re counting) and Flynn’s Bronn (37 episodes) bounced around Westeros together, forming one of TV’s most fun double acts. Their screen history goes all the way back to a gold-for-bed-swap at the Crossroads Inn, setting off several years of Bronn risking life and limb as Tyrion’s go-to bodyguard. Casual!

We’ve got no idea who either will play in Alien: Earth—FX is definitely being coy—but frankly, if the scriptwriters don’t put them together for at least one scene, it’ll be a scandal. There’s also an odd little aside: Dinklage joining sets up a tenuous connection to 'an unexpected animated film'. Your guess is as good as mine.

Production Status and What Next

At this point, Alien: Earth Series 2 is filming. There’s no word yet on exactly when it’ll land on screens, so if you’re desperate to see Dinklage and Flynn square up again, you’ll just have to wait.
