After leaving The Pitt, Supriya Ganesh trades the ER for a haunted farmhouse
After a shocking Season 3 exit from HBO's The Pitt, Supriya Ganesh has lined up a new horror movie — and she’s sharing it with a very recognisable name.
Nothing like a quick career pivot – and in the case of Supriya Ganesh, it's going from stethoscopes to supernatural chaos. Fresh off her run on HBO's medical drama The Pitt, Ganesh has now found herself in the thick of an atmospheric horror film, joining Finn Wittrock for a project that managed to fly under the radar until it had already wrapped.
Exit Wounds from The Pitt
Ganesh was a key part of The Pitt for its first two seasons, playing Dr. Samira Mohan. News of her departure came out in April 2026, a bit of a surprise for fans but allegedly nothing dramatic behind the scenes. Her character's storyline had simply run its course: she finished her residency at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center and moved on, as doctors in such shows often do. According to show creator R. Scott Gemmill, it was all about capturing what happens in a real teaching hospital, with residents coming and going as part of the normal flow. No controversy, just the rhythms of a large ensemble medical drama.
The producers confirmed Ganesh's exit from The Pitt in April 2026 following her character's completed residency arc.
Into the Horror: Portrait
So what's next for Ganesh? A supernatural horror thriller called Portrait, directed by Robert Schwartzman. This film, which just finished shooting, brings Ganesh together with Wittrock in lead roles, with a supporting cast including Whitmer Thomas, Este Haim (yes, from the band), and Andrew Divoff.
‘Portrait’ is Schwartzman’s creation, developed from a script by Zac Stanford. The film follows Mark and his wife Leah (that's Wittrock and Ganesh, respectively), a couple who leave city life behind for a quiet farmhouse. Classic horror set-up: things go sideways immediately after they discover a creepy old portrait of a mysterious pioneer woman. Cue supernatural visions, rising violence, and a pile of secrets buried deep in the rural soil. Mark is soon fighting to save his new family from the escalating nightmare. If you think you’ve heard the ‘haunted rural detour’ pitch before, well, you have, but they’re promising a new spin this time.
- Director: Robert Schwartzman
- Writers: Story by Schwartzman, screenplay by Zac Stanford
- Main cast: Supriya Ganesh (Leah), Finn Wittrock (Mark), Whitmer Thomas, Este Haim, Andrew Divoff
- Status: Wrapped production, seeking distribution at the American Film Market
Upgrade Productions and After Hours are currently shopping the film around to potential buyers in both the US and abroad. No theatrical release date yet, but that info should surface once the dust settles on distribution rights. Ganesh, for her part, has wasted no time finding her post-hospital gig, and it'll be interesting to see her take on the leading role in something so different from the procedural grind of her last job.
