Adria Arjona isn’t skipping leg day — training, diet, muscles for Man of Tomorrow
Adria Arjona says prepping for her still-secret role in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow meant serious graft — and she’s buzzing to reunite with Gunn and DC.
Here we go again with the secrecy at DC Studios. Nobody seems willing to just say who Adria Arjona is playing in James Gunn's upcoming Superman film, Man of Tomorrow. Arjona's involved, yes, but her character remains under wraps—for now, anyway. Still, one thing is absolutely clear: this isn't the sort of role where you just turn up for a costume fitting and call it a day.
Arjona said of her preparation for the film, 'I have muscles that I've never had in my life. I'm training two to three hours a day on a crazy diet. Drinking coffee is the only thing that keeps me up. And I’m really excited!'
She's clearly not just here for a cameo. Arjona's played in this ballpark before: Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran previously worked with her on The Belko Experiment all the way back in 2016. Now, the band’s back together for DC’s cinematic reboot.
Who is Adria Arjona Actually Playing?
At this point, there’s more conjecture than fact. The internet's consensus seems to be that Arjona is most likely taking on Maxima. This character, for the uninitiated, is usually rendered as an alien queen, morally ambiguous and dead set on marrying Superman. All of which would make sense given Man of Tomorrow is rumoured to have Brainiac as the main villain, and the script is apparently a full-on alien jamboree—there's even talk of a smattering of Green Lanterns showing up for good measure.
- Maxima, in comic lore, is a powerhouse from another planet, giving Superman a run for his money and aiming to make him her king. Not exactly a shrinking violet.
That said, a surprising number of people online reckon Arjona could be slid into the role of Wonder Woman. Now, that's still pure speculation, but keep in mind: neither Batman nor Wonder Woman have proper DCU actors yet. There’s plenty of pressure on Gunn and co. to nail these castings. It would be a big move, introducing the second member of DC’s "Trinity" this early, but Gunn's not exactly famous for bowing to fan demands if it doesn't fit his plan. No doubt he’ll take his time about it, if he even brings Diana into play just yet.
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to land in cinemas on 9 July 2027.
